Hi all

I'm after a bit of advise, I've just moved down to nz from europe and wondering if there is anything different between the set ups of freeview down here that up in europe.

Down here the inlaws have one dish with one lnb, (so I assume) but they have a twin tuner dishtv box with hard drive and a strong free view box all running of the one cable.

I am assuming that there is a splitter in the house but do all the freeview channels run off one transponder? If not how are they managing to switch between the channels or are the lnb's down here really something like a monoblok and switch with a tone burst or something?

It's not that complicated - a simple splitter is all that is required. Freeview is transmitted from 3 transponders, all with H polarisation. All signals from every transponder on the selected polarisation are sent by the LNB all the time. It is up to the individual tuner to choose the transponder it wants (that's what it 'tunes') and from there, select the data stream corresponding to the service required.

ah well that makes sense. When I last looked i thought I had seen that there also transponders on the v polarization also. Many thanks.

You may have done. Until a few months ago we were able to receive some services intended for Australia in v-pol, including the superb, and much lamented SBS.
