I have an Igloo box in the lounge. On the odd occassion I would like to be able transmit the Igloo channel to another room.

I rang Igloo to ask if an AV Sender would do the trick - they said no. Only solution was to buy another Igloo box and pay another $25 per month for the channels.

I'm reading things about RF Outputs which I think somehow transmits the channel to another TV that can tune in to the signal??

Perhaps there is another device that could do the trick?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

A video sender will work fine. Get one with a built in IR extender and you will be able to change the channel in the other room.

Looking at the igloo manual there are 3 outputs on the box. Assuming you are using one for your local tv then yes you can send one to another TV. What kind of distance is there to your second TV?

I have read that people have success transmitting the Sky channels with an AV Sender but that is Sattelite. Is Igloo's terrestrial signal encrypted or special in some way for the Igloo person to say it wouldn't work? Or they just want me to pay another subscription.

I can record the Igloo channels on the AV4 channel of my DVD recorder (not changing the channel while it is recording) so can't see why the channel can't transmit from one room to another.

Wanted to check first though before I spend $200 or so on an AV Sender.

Really appreciate the replies so far.

They just dont want to support it.

Analog video senders will get a staticy mess and screw up wifi for all your neighbours.

digital 2.4Ghz ones have a low frame rate when I have tried one, mainly aimed at CCTV use.

HDMI extenders are expensive. If you can run a cable that would be the best way, cat-6 and HDMI over cat-6 would be best, otherwise jaycar still have some analog video over cat 5 devices available.

If it is only occasionally you need this, you could also just temporarily move the Igloo box to the other room!

The signal is encrypted but the box decrypts it and sends to the TV via the HDMI or other outputs on the box.
You have proven that with your DVD recorder.
The video sender would plug into those outputs and send the picture (or should).

I expect the igloo person probably doesnt know. To be fair to them its not really their job to support the great idea you want to implement.

Its up to you to take a punt on the AV sender I guess.

12 meters + 3 walls = a bad time to be had...
But if you can buy one with a right to return, then you may as well give it a punt?

A colleague at work gave me another suggestion - connect the tv's up with the yellow, red and white cables (Igloo box has one set of these to the TV and another to the DVD recorder so I used the spare slots on the DVD recorder) and then put the 2nd TV onto the AV channel.

And it worked!

Mind you, the tv's were right next to each other and I don't know if I can get the RCA cables long enough to span the distance between the 2 rooms.

I have a friend who will loan me his AV Sender to try too, so I will report back.

Thank you all for your advice so far.

They should work OK. In the early days of DVD I used to run A/V cables under the house from one end of the house to the other (PC to TV) and that was two 10 metre lengths joined to make 20 metres.
Worked fine.

P.S. If you use the A/V out from the DVD recorder you can watch DVD in the other room too.

Main Issue I see with Igloo is the boxes go into standby early hours of the morning very annoying esp if recorder connected to the AV outs

Have you got a link for that unit - would be perfect for Motels with freeview TVs that want to pipe a Sky channel or two through the system I'd think.

Thanks, not HD I see, but still a good idea.

Wonder how much HDMI ones are (especially ones that can take more than one input). I'm thinking megabucks.
