Is it possible to force the MTV3700 to record a program on a plus 1 channel?

For some programs I don't really care about the recording being in SD, and therefore recording on a plus 1 channel saves disk space. However unless I sit there and manually press record on the plus 1 channel, the MTV will very helpfully record the normal channel in HD.

Is there any way to get it to do what I ask?

I don't believe so.

I think the programs on +1 use the same program codes as on the non +1 channels.  So unless you're recording two other programs (with a higher priority) at the same time, it wont bump to using the +1 screening.

A pain, but you could set the MTV up to record two other programs at the same time, with higher priority and tell it not to keep the recoding very long (I forget what the shortest period is).

TVHeadend can manage it, so I don't think there's a technical reason why it's not possible.

Looks like timer record is the only option - back to the old days of programming the VCR!

CraigHumphrey is correct.

I've checked that the Freeview MHEG EPG is only passing the following information to MTV3700TD:

crid://tvnz.co.nz/10353064
{"bookingData": { "cridType": 49, "name" : "ONE News at Midday", "desc" : "No synopsis available" } }

As you see it does not state which channel it is.  The PVR is required to scan all the programme data to match the CRID.

If another software or PVR manages to do what you request, I believe it is probably not making the booking via the Freeview MHEG EPG, and/or not doing it in a Freeview-compliant manner.
