Hi folks - we are on Freeview and hardly watch any live TV at all - pretty much record all of the series we're interested in and then watch them in the evenings. We have two TV's, one in the lounge with a Panasonic DMR-XW390  PVR, and one in the den (which we really only use over the winter months) which at the moment does not have a PVR at all.
The solution I'd like is to keep recording everything on the one PVR, in the lounge, but to be able to watch those recordings on the TV in the den.  I imagine, if I had an appropriate PVR, that getting the signal down to the den should be easy enough via one of the PVR outputs, but I still want to be able to FF the ads and change channels etc from down in the den. So, to get to the point, is there an iPad app or something like that, which I can use from the den to remotely control my PVR?  I might be over complicating this but I'm sure you'll understand what I'm talking about here.  I'm happy to get a new PVR to enable this if that is what would be required. Any suggestions gratefully received!

No reason to ditch the Panasonic, they are good units.
You should just look at getting an HDMI extender with IR-extenders built in. This will do it: http://www.cablemax.co.nz/Specials/tabid/100/CategoryID/249/List/1/catpageindex/5/Level/a/ProductID/4583/Default.aspx

Quite expensive, but you may find it or something similar cheaper. You would also need a two way HDMI splitter with that. You could run it over composite/component too and get a wireless IR transmitter. A cheap universal remote and you are away. At home for our bedroom TV I run composite cables form the MYSky to the bedroom, and have a wireless IR sender. Because I use a Harmony remote for the main TV, I have just taken the MySky remote into the bedroom. Works perfectly.

Wow, thanks for that trig42, sounds like this is going to be easier than I thought. Two questions - just to make sure I've got it right - I assume the two way HDMI splitter is required so that one feed can go into the HDMI Extender box and the second feed into the local (lounge TV)?  And secondly, if I go the composite route, do I just run a 20 length of composite cable, or is there another type of Composite Extender box which converts composite into Cat5e/6?

Thanks a lot

You will be able to get both, but cheaper and easier will be a decent quality composite cable. I made my own using RG59 and crimped on F-Connectors to each end, then F-Socket to RCA plug convertors. Works fine.
