Hi there,

A weird and frustrating problem, when I connect my DishTV Freeview Satellite receiver S7070r into the DVD/HDD recorder. Using an AV cable (composite yellow/red/white), the picture comes through fine, but the audio is totally silent.

I'm sure it's not a technical fault. The sound and picture work well when I connect the same Freeview box to the TV (Panasonic TH-32A400Z). And sound/picture both work when I connect a Sky box to that DVD recorder. This is all with composite cables - I've tried a few spares, and the equipment is all pretty new.

When I connect the Freeview box to the DVD recorder, the audio cables make the normal "ffff" noise, like they recognize a connection. But no other sound comes out. Yet the picture looks fine. Has anyone experienced this?

The Freeview box can record its programs on a USB stick, but I also like to put them onto DVD sometimes. It makes me wonder if DishTV or Panasonic don't want their products being used with other recording equipment maybe.

I've tried changing a couple of things in the menus, to no avail. Current technical settings here:

Manual is a little vague, but Audio will probably be prioritised for optical out/AC3 over SPDIF or HDMI redirection.

Need to change it to analogue/PCM and ensure any options for analogue are enabled.

Strange indeed. The fact that the Sky box works OK into the recorder would indicate the recorder is OK and the problem lies with the S7070 sound output. Either bad connections or a sound setting that isn't correct.
Have you tried using a SCART to A/V cable or only the A/V output on the S7070? Is your volume level on the S7070 set to max? The TV has a volume control but the Recorder doesn't and will need the input level from the S7070 at max.

Thanks everyone. Still no sound – I set the Panasonic's "digital audio outputs" all to PCM instead of bitstream, and tried PCM downconversion on/off (other settings in link in post#1)

Scart to AV isn't an option as neither one has a Scart socket. Sound/picture worked when connecting a Sky box to the DVD recorder with a Scart-to-AV or just an AV cable. Volume's all the way up. The DishTV box has sockets for HDMI, composite, component, SPDIF, and RF out. The DVD recorder only has 1 HDMI out, 1 composite in, composite out, digital audio out (PCM/bitstream), RF in and RF out.

Hi

I have gotten back from the team and they have indicated that its possible the audio detection level on the Recorder is lower than on the TV.

You may also need to update the latest software and see if this solves the audio issue,

otherwise its just incompatibility
