Hi I have a Samsung Monitor 19.5in With HDMI input.

I was wondering about using this as a screen to watch freeview.

If I got myself a Freeview box and plugged the HDMI in, would it function, or would I run into problems as the resolution of the Monitor is 1600x900.

Your help with a Freeview box that would output to this monitors native resolution, or any other information would be appreciated.

Regards,

I had a bit of a google but can't tell if the monitor has HDCP support on the HDMI port - I would have thought this is neccessary for a freeview box to output over HDMI. I'd imagine resolution shouldn't be a problem, just choose 720p resolution on the Freeview box

If a device lists HDMI support it has to have HDCP, its part of the spec. If the monitor doesnt do HDCP then its not fit for purpose. Thats like selling a car with a CD player that doesnt play CDs

Actually, not good to know, because it's wrong. HDMI does not require HDCP.

It was in the vesa spec that I looked at years ago, not seen that FAQ page till now.

Regardless, its still going to be part of the fit for purpose requirements that the CGA protects you under.

None will. You could try different resolutions and see what looks best. But why not get a UHF tuner for your computer?

Yeah we do that. Were just looking to re-purpose a spare monitor.

You could get a non-freewiew certified box and bypass that pesky HDCP and other freeview enforced limitations.
