For some reason i get no sound when trying to playback recorded digital content from TV3. TV1, 2, C4 seem to work.

I am using gbpvr, with a WIN NOVA-T duel tuner card to record.  And am using cyberlink powerdvd with some other codecs for audio.  At present i dont know if its a problem with my recording software, transmission from tv station, decoding software.

I am in the Manawatu region.  I have enclosed a very short few second long video clip that i downloaded.  Can anyone offer me some suggestions, and/or download the video file and let me know if they get sound playing on their system.  Thanks in advance.

What version of the Monogram AAC decoder are you using? I highly recommend the new V9.3.0 version.

I had k-lite codec pack installed which did all my ac3 handeling. i uninstalled that and haali media splitter,  to start off on a clean slate.  I then installed monogram aac decoder.
I tried playing the test file in mediaplayer classic because it will let me see what filters it is using. For some reason its detecting the audio track as an mpeg1 audio and hanging now while trying to decode.  Does anyone know what filter determines what codec to load to decode streams?  If anyone could post a screenshot of what filters are used to play this content successfully i would be much appreciated

You have to add the Monogram AAC codec to Media Player Classic via View/Options/External Filters and set it to Prefer.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

I actually cant get audio working with Monogram in MPC either, im using the latest from their website. Same for CoreAAC when i tested that.

I added it as an external filter, set to prefer, and it wont play with any any of the samples inc. this one. I even added Any Type as media type to test but it still doesnt work.

However they all play perfect in Mediaportal, but then funnily enough Cyberlink doesnt show up on the H264 decoder selection, only ffdshow, but i have h264 disabled in that, but it still plays fine. Odd.

Ok lol. I tried playing the tv3 ts files in gbpvr and they play fine. But just just when i thought i was in the clear, i tried playing the tv2 streams and they play with no sound.

So in summary

tv1,tv2,c4 play in media player classic, and tv3 plays in gbprv.

hmmmm

What created these ts files? Something maybe wrong at the recording end of things.

GB-PVR definitely gives me audio on all those channels.

Ok im using the AC3 versions of tv1 and tv2.

I see that gbpvr is loading the monogram aac audio decoder regardless of what codec the audio is using.

Are you testing with the ac3 versions of tv1 and 2?

Does aac latm support ac3 spdif output to my receiver?

I've been using the AAC versions of the channels. Its possible its not switching cleanly been AAC and AC3, so might be best to stick with AAC for now. The AC3 audio was only added after I made the last GB-PVR release, so I havnt tested the integration of the two.

I dont know.

Excuse my ignorance but it the audio track is AAC wouldn't that require the software player to convert to AC-3?  What it could do is output the AAC track as PCM over spdif but I suspect that would only be stereo.

The AAC transmissions are only stereo, the AC3 broadcasts are only stereo at present but will have 5.1 audio with selected programs.

SPDIF output works no matter what the audio format is but you're only going to get stereo output unless the show is 5.1 or use a directshow filter of some sort to "upscale" the stereo signal to a Dolby Digital signal and create virtual 5.1

Now that's interesting. Currently the HE-AAC LATM audio is stereo if that is what you saying (and many devices can't play that including the PCH). But if they go to 5.1 they will use DD 5.1?  If that is the case a .ts file encoded in AVC with AC-3 audio is definitely playable on many devices including the PS3 and I suspect the PCH.

Back to the original point, if the signal in the audio file is AAC, then it's only going to come out of the spdif output  either in bitstream AAC format, or if the software player can decode the AAC, output it as PCM. The latter is better if only because there are very few AVR's that can decode AAC over spdif (or HMDI for that matter) whereas most AVR's that can do DD or DTS can readily cope with a stereo PCM signal over spdif (standard output format from a CD player that can output the digital signal rather than the analogue).

For example the PS3 can take a AAC signal (stereo only) and convert to PCM to output over SPDIF which is probably the only way most AVR's can process it. As an aside I have video file that have AAC 5.1 but the only way to hear them is over HDMI (the PS3 converts the AAC 5.1 to PCM 5.1) and I don't have HDMI audio on my AVR.
