So got a t2100 on clearance and I set it all up, I got a 500gb external, it was all I could afford, I am have trouble getting it recognized on the box. No matter what I do, it appears that the box says no USB device is connected, even though the external is lighting up and getting power.

Any help welcome :( I can't afford another external. I just want to record some tv!

tried exfat and formatted it to Fat32 just in case. Started off at ntfs. Maybe you are right about the power :( In which case I have no idea what cheap alternatives I can find. I don't need much space, But the usb 8gb is really not doing well. Any suggestions if it is a power issue on something cheap and big enough for a few movies?

I am disabled and so my budget is small, also it was suppose to be a way to help fight my lonely days. As I can only go out with supervision .

ideally you would need a Y cable with 2 USB A connections on it and plug one into the T2100, and the other into either a second USB port on the device or a cheap USB wall charger

Ah I do have a y cable just its not long enough. But you have given me an idea.

Do you think possibly buying a new enclosure for the 500gb HDD may be an option?

the effort for that is great, just get a USB A male to USB A Female cable and use it to extend to the USB port on the back of the device. A cable like that will cost you a couple of bucks

Hey Jase! You are right on the power! I plugged the other end into the PS4 and now its recognized so at least now I know its not the HDD and is just a power issue :) Thanks!

Hmm I looked at a 128gb stick and this usb was actually cheaper than the cheapest one of those I could find... If you know where I can get a 128gb for under 30 dollars would be greatful :) Either that or a better solution to the power issue.

see my post above about the USB extension cable :)

the T2100 may not have quiet enough power to make the drive run properly from a single USB port, where as a PS4 or PC does
