Hi.

I am using the crystalwave H.264 hd decoder and cyberlink SP decoder and I am using a program called Fraps to monitor my FPS. According to Fraps I am getting 30-45 FPS on SD and the HD channel but I am still having jitters and a bit of stuttering.
I am using EVR. Anyone have any ideas what else to try?

My graphics is an 8600GT

Check that what devices are sharing IRQ's. If you tuner is sharing a IRQ with something like the video card then that can cause jitter.

Hi Seasport.
There are obviously a few differences. I am using evr and vista but the jerking you describe when panning is the exact issue I have with the HD decoding.

The sd decoding, I have yet to find something that works particularly well. I no longer have bad jitter etc 2 or 3 minutes into the video now that I have installed the 8600GT. I personally believe it had to do with the audio decoder loading up the cpu rather than an actual video decoder issue. I believe ow I have more gpu horsepower that has solved the issue.

What are you using for sd decoder? Are you stil having poor video problems?

The tuner and graphics card do have the same IRQ number. It says no conflicts but how do I change that? I have no familiarity with IRQ numbers etc at all.

The easiest way would be to put your tuner card into another free PCI slot on the motherboard.
You might need to move other cards around if you have no free slots.

Not an option unfortunately. Graphics is PCI-e and only have 1 of those. And it is a double card so I lost a pci slot leaving me just the one the tv tuner is in.

I haven't really played around with SD yet. Been focussing on HD.

Yes still have jerkiness. I'm perplexed why I am consistently getting 37 fps when playing the 720p HD Freeview demo channel. Yet I am gettiing 50fps when playing 1080i TV3. What's happening there? Is this 37 fps the cause of my problem? Certainly TV3 looks a lot smoother.

Also, I've read that your display card should be set to 50Hz refresh rate to match the video frame rate. This makes sense. I guess if the video frames are coming in at 50 per second and you are displaying them at 60fps then you are going to double up in some frames which will cause jerkiness. Trouble is the monitor that I am using only allows 59 and 60 fps.

What's your aerial reception like? i had this problem due to a splitter and long cable degrading the signal, can you try the cable straight from the aerial ? What is your prime reception like on a tv?

There is a join in it. I may need to get a new cable. Would a split box to join vhf and uhf have an effect as well do you think?

The UHF/VHF diplexer shouldn't make too much difference but the join probably will (especially if it is not a good quality f connector join), if possible try the cable plugged in before the join, but if not a new run of good RG6 cable could solve your problems.

P4 3GHz, Win XP MCE
8500GT GPU with H.264 h/w acceleration running
Cyberlink H.264/AVC Decoder (Azurewave) (from Twinhan Digital TV package)
Using VMR 9 renderer

Actually, I am getting 37.5 fps with 720p. This suggests I'm dropping one frame out of every four but DVBViewer reports that no frames are dropped in renderer. Are you driving your TV with component o/p? How does this work?

The point with display card refresh rate is that it is better to match the input frame rate (which is 50 frames per second for progressive and 50 fields per second for interlace). So if you have a 60 Hz refresh rate on your display, it means some TV frames will be duplicated.

Incidentally, how do you get Fraps to work? Doesn't seem to do anything on my PC with DVBViewer or Mediaplayer.

All I did was run Fraps, minimise it and then when video was displayed there was a fps in the top left hand corner of the video.
There was even a fps in the screen in the nvidia control panel.
I didn't change any settings at all.
