hey guys

so stoked about Freeview HD and want to get it on my TV through my xbox 360 media centre from my computer with a HD TV card in it
now what is the best card for this? anyone know?
i thought of this one WinTV-HVR-4000 which is a quad tuner
what do you guys think?
i also want to go through my xbox 360 so i need media centre. which is better xp or vista MC?
details? answers?

Xp nor vista MCE support Freeview - Gb-PVR or Mediaportal are your free software choices.

The hvr2200 is a dual dvb-t card with only 1 aerial input. Very easy to configure and the easiest card I found to tune in.

I don't recommend the HVR3000 as I had trouble with it.

ok guys here is the problem
im a complete lamen and i want freeview HD to run perfect on my 42" samsung through a video card in my pc
what would i need to do this? what is the best tv card, video card and what are the min specs to do this
what software and updates will i need to get it going and how well will it run
if you could draw a diagram to show exactly what i need that would be amazing
how does the channel changing work? and can i use my xbox 360 as a media centre with this? or should i connect the computer straight to my screen using vga or something?
i realyl need help and i would love to get it
btw i cant understand half the posts about freeview so yeah a lot of help is needed

Simply connect it to your UHF Aeril and then to your tv.

Or start posting what you have in your computer

i dont jsut want a receiver
i want to be able to record 1 channel and watch another one at the same time
so one aerial that suppports hd and one just normal freeview
i want to be able to apuse and all that jazz and i want to be able to send it thru the xbox if i can
il have specs in a bit ok

if you are a newbie and cannot follow the guides you will struggle to get it to work perfectly as htpc is not for the faint hearted.

Be ready to spend 100 hours coming up to speed if you are not computer literate or do not have an above average knowledge of pcs.

No amount of people posting diagrams will help ....until you embark on the journey and get your hands dirty and hit your first few issues you will not go anywhere.

This is how you will learn.

Step one buy a card recommend the HVR2200
you need nvidia 8600GT min
you want vista but xp will work too
you will need powerdvd ultra or one of the freecodecs loaded for hd playback
you will need to load mediaportal or GBpvr to do the playbakc and recording and be your frontend
you will need to connect the pc to your tv via hdmi
you need to use the digital connection from your pc sound card to your receiver coax or toslink
you will need to get guide working with the swg you chose

all of this is in the guide if you cannot follow it and do not wish to spend the time and energy learning from your mistakes then wait for mysky hd in July

be aware HTPC's are typically a world of pain for the none techo and techo alike.

^^ that is basically what i was getting at when i suggested to get the STB.

Why do you to use your XBOX? This most likely is not going to work- and it doesn't sound like you're the person to experiment with it.

The X-box won't work. It can only be used as a media extender for XP or Vista Media Center and neither of these have support for H.264 video so can't be used with DVB-T in New Zealand.

that was rough and hard lol
ok so i know what i need. sounds all good to me
i like playing around with the comp to get things working. i may not be an it prof but i have some knowledge on pcs
ok so xbox is out of the way i thought it would be which is a same and hdmi is what i use
i prob need a new graphics card then what do you recommend as you only said nvidia 8800 min
how have people found freeview on their comps? channel change time? record? cpu usage?
and how is the record and pause function working?
whats so good about the tv card you recommend? does it enable watchig one channel and recording another?

It is an easy card to tune and trouble free. Yes you can record one channel and watch another and with some software you can record 2 channels on the same mux and watch another mux at the same time.

what is the problem with HTCP? a light description of this would be great (demanding arent i, sorry lol)
where is this guide that you speak of to get this setup?
in your opinions is it worth the effort doing this or is it a waste of time?

here is why it is worth it

my htpc palys DVD, has access to 2TB of movies, plays HDDVD and bluray, displays pictures, is a video processor, records tv in hd (soon once I get my new card) runs my home automation system, plays and access 300GB of music

All in one device.

what are the issues

stability
stuttering video
no sound
bugs in drivers
integration equired
no two machines are the same so if you have a problem we maynot be able to help you fix it
you could spend hours trying to make it work smoothly
then you upgrade one piece just when it was all working and it all breaks

basically anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

but then I am an optimist
