Hi all I want a little advise ,regards tvnz on demand through Samsung TV. We have two Samsung smart tv's one of them does not play the adds but has a break for a few seconds and then continues with the program the other one, the older of the two, used to play the adds but recently it has stopped playing adds but instead the screen goes blank for what would appear to be the duration of the adds being played,sometimes this can be 2 or three minutes, you cant fast forward it so you just have to look at a blank screen.Has any one else experienced this and any suggestions.

Not experienced exactly what you describe but I would have to say the provision of adverts is a bit hit and miss at times. Sometimes we get them, sometimes we don't, sometimes we get a lot, and sometimes just one. Sometimes the ad starts then abruptly stops and goes back to the program for a second, then back to the advert again. It's all a bit of a flaky service really. We just let it go until the program starts again. Both Samsung TV's the same.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Yes, I experience this same thing frequently. It doesn't bother me that much because I don't want to watch the ads anyway.

Yes I don't want to watch the adds either but after a minute or so my wife gets impatient and starts pushing buttons and sometimes we finish up back at the start again. Maybe I just hide the remote.It is odd that two TVs on the same wifi act differently.

Maybe the firmware version influences behaviour.

Yes we get really intermittent service from the TVNZ App on a Samsung TV. Sometimes it plays to the end of a programme break, then plays an ad then we get the timer stuck and it goes back to the start of the programme. Frustrating. This issue came up at a meeting with TVNZ online commissioners recently and they are aware that the TVNZ ON Demand platform does not always give the best or most consistent user experience.

They know they are competing with Netflix for online users and need to make their user interface comparable, it just takes heaps of investment I guess.

We purchased a Samsung 4K Smart TV three and a half years ago. We were so pleased with it we bought a second Samsung 4K Smart TV about 18 months ago.
Recently I looked on the older tv to see about looking at Choice TV on demand. It did not appear to be available, but TVNZ on demand and TV3 were there.
I checked the new tv and saw that it had automatically updated to the New Freeview on demand which is a composite of all the available channels.
When I went back to see if the old tv had the new Freeview on demand, I found it did not, and I also saw that tv3 on demand was now missing.
With great persistence filling out the information required to communicate with Samsung, I was advised that because of changes by Freeview the new Freeview on demand would not be available for this old tv, nor did TV 3 on demand now support Samsung tv's which were as old as this.
So after 3.5 years my SMART TV is no longer smart enough.
Lesson learned!

I will never buy another Samsung TV. After only a few years it has been completely abandoned by Samsung and is not getting updated apps or security updates. I just use it as a screen for my Apple TV, which (IMHO) has the best TVNZ app experience.

I had that discussion today. Use a box for smarts. It’s bad but also a tv company can’t suppot endless models forever. I use ATV4 I expect that to be supported for a loooong time

I have a Samsung with Tizen. I don't use the tvnz app much but I don't see these problems. I use ethernet for the TV. That could be the difference.

Imo all smart TV OS and therefore apps are ropey as. They see it as a consumer life of three years. Reaching that is a bonus.

Also Tizen and ethernet to TV. Don't see the above range of issues, but do regularly get 1st ad played, but programme doesn't start. Second attempt will play another ad and then always start.

On the plus side, I've had great customer service from Samsung when our LED panel failed after about 14 months. They had a new 60" panel delivered and fitted in situ within 48 hours, I was most impressed.

Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all...

We had exactly the same experience on a 3-4 year-old 60” Samsung Smart tv about two years ago. Brilliant service.

But the TVNZOD experience on both our our Samsung Smart TVs is flaky at best.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
