Hope you guys can help out. I got an HVR-900 tuner and recorded olympics games. I want to transfer them to DVD so I can watch them on my big screen TV but unfortunately I could not burn the mpg files from PowerCinema with audio. Video is fantastic but no sound. Which software works best with PowerCinema that will allow me to burn to DVD recorded TV shows with audio. I even tried the Cyberlink MakeDVD trial version and still doesn't work well. Let me know, I will appreciate your suggestions. Thanks

Hi.

Can you clarify a couple of things:

1) Are you recording via UHF DVB-T connection (eg 720p H.264)?
2) If the answer to 1 is yes, what audio format were you receiving? (the AC3 (dolby digital) or AAC)
3) Are you creating a true DVD video that is playable in any DVD player, and the resulting DVD can be played but has no sound?

2. This is where my ignorance comes in, how can you tell which audio I am receiving. I can only see the recording settings for audio but not audio format when receiving. I saw in one of the topics about AAC patch. I will try this out when I get home if this works out. No idea what audio I am receiving. Would appreciate if you let me know how to identify.
3. Yes I am trying to burn as true DVD video so I can watch via any DVD player, unfortunately no sound is generated. I have tried Nero 8, Sony Vegas, even Cyberlink MakeDVD (which cannot even play the PowerCinema file).

Let me know if there are any more questions to clarify my DVD burn no audio issue. Thanks for the response btw.

Do you get sound when playing back the recording (or watching live TV) on your PC? if not you probably need the AAC patch. If there is some way of telling which audio format PowerCinema is receiving I'd love to know.

OK, there could be a solution to your problem, but unfortunately, not for any of the recordings you have already made, assuming they have no audio (read on)

First off, another question :-)

If you playback your original recordings (in power cinema) do you still get sound? If the answer is No, then definately install the patch. Make another recording -and try burning a DVD (via Cyberlink) and all going well, you should have a DVD with sound.

Now about the audio format. TV1 and 3 supply an AC3 audio feed (in addition to the horrible AAC one).

In order to swap to that, move your mouse cursor to the "A" symbol at the bottom of your screen and click on it. Two audio streams will display. Click on the second audio stream and you will now be receiving the AC3 feed (Dolby Digital).

This feed gives you DD 5.1 surround sound, and even without the patch, records properly. I would imagine that this audio format would be preserved when you burn to DVD, so is also a much better option when recording (the AAC format would need to be converted by the DVD burning software into a compatible format -probably Dolby Digital 2.0).

Tim, read my post above -you can select the audio feed while the TV channel is playing (I found this after messing around with all the options)

unfortunately, it defaults to the AAC feed, so you have to manually select it when you first go to the channel..

I was happy to find this (prior to the patch) as it allowed me to record with sound (and magnificent DD 5.1 as well!)

The files plays ok with PowerCinema and PowerDVD, both from CyberLink, funny thing is once I start to edit video for a DVD burn I lose audio even on a Cyberlink MakeDVD software. That is why I am puzzled, and yet it says in their website that MakeDVD is an enhancement to PowerCinema. Hope you advise.

OK, I suspect that the DVD burn software (even the cyberlink one) does not support AAC conversion.

I strongly suspect you will need to record with AC3 in order to get sound..

The bundled PowerCinema 5.1 software (latest version with AAC integrated) that came bundled with my Nova-T 500 unfortunately always defaults to recording the nasty AAC soundtrack if you setup an event in the timer to record a program. However if you manually choose the second audio stream (AC3 DD) then hit Record, it records the nice AC3 stream. Also on playback, the only FF/REW options max out at 2x speed. Does anyone know if the registered version is any better? Currently I playback with Media Player Classic to enable more FF/Rew options, but it doesn't have an available codec to play the AAC track, only AC3. I sure wish this stuff worked well out of the box. Are there better alternatives?

I was afraid that you wouls say that, that's life. The "A" symbol only appears when you are in a TV mode and receiving a broadcast right? I am now using my office laptop and without the tuner I don't see the "A" symbol. I will try it when I get back home. Hope it works this time. I will let you know the outcome.

Registered version works the same way on FF/RW which is a bit irritating and when you are in a hurry you want 4x or 8x FF to look for a scene. Although I haven't used the remote control yet but softwarewise it is only up to 2x max FF/RW.

You were right, TVNZ1 & TV3 has AC3 signals which in PowerCinema I can select and once played in any media player will already have sound. Unfotunately TVNZ Sports channel on freeview has no options and it turns out to be an AAC signal.

We can only hope they add AC3 to the other channels at some point.

It would also be good if you could choose the preferred audio track for channels that have more than 1 (in PowerCinema)

ps. I should mention that with the AC3 feed, it seems to me that they are providing the 6th surround channel as well, when avaiiable. (DD ex)

When I switch my amp to this mode, all 7.1 speakers appear to be engaged (during the olympics)
