hey guys, i am setting up a DVBT stick that i got from Kworld. http://www.kworld.com.tw/main/prod_in.aspx?mnuid=1248&modid=6&prodid=71&flag=1

It has the easiest set up software and "media centre" and i got it going in no time, every channel working all good.

thing is the Kworld media centre is really basic and i have no idea to get the channels around the right order and does not timeshift. So i am set the stick up for Media Portal which i have been using for the last 3 months.

Now Media Portal get all channels in the scan, but C4, TVNZ6 and 7 the picture is just a big pixelated blur sometimes in green or red. you can hear sound though. All other channels gets clear pictures.

I first thought it was bad recpetion but the Kworld media centre gets all channels sweet with clarity.

Then i stuffed around with the decoding codecs, they all seem the same. currently using cyberlink H264 decoder.

Systems specs being:

Athlon 5200+
2GB 677 ram
ATI 4850 GFX
plenty of hard drive space
driver 8.522-080731a

You need to install the latest ATI drivers for your card.

Thanks, I have now got the 8.9 version of driver and Catalyst control

still got the same screen, now sometimes grey too. i get a frame of proper picture every few seconds. (ie, i can see the C4 logo every few second)

heres what it looks like, hope it works.

ATI's drivers can't handle interlaced H.264 content. It's an issue that many many people on here have experienced. Some seem to have got it working but 99% haven't. ATI are aware of the issue but don't seem in any hurry to fix it.

You don't really have an option but to move to NVidia if you want things working properly with hardware acceleration.

If it was just the green pixelation the drivers would have fixed - I had that on my notebook and the lastet ATI drivers did the job. But for interlaced, follow sbiddle's comments...

What Cyberlink decoder are you using?
If powerDVD 8, make sure to UPDATE TO THE LATEST VERSION/PATCH (free download from cyberlink site). When you open PDVD there should be an ATI logo among the many there on the main screen.
If using PDVD7 you'r probably out of luck.

Yup i am using PDVD H264 decoder. I just been on the site and downloaded the two updates, both of them was not needed apparently according to the installation wizard.

The thing confuses me is that HyperMediacentre (by Kworld) is watchable OK but NOT Media Portal?

At a guess the HyperMediaCentre doesn't use any H.264 hardware acceleration (ie offload the H.264 decoding to your GFX card) whereas MediaPortal does. H.264 hardware acceleration is essential to get a good quality picture with low CPU usage.

I;m guessing you use xp. If you change to vista, then ati can deinterlace with hardware acceleration better. The other alternative is to turn off the hardware acceleration for pdvd under the DShow filter settings in mediaportal setup, or you can use coreavc.

I wanted to use xp, so i just use coreavc for tv, and the built in hardware acceleration within mpc-hc for downloaded movies.

If you use overlay as your video renderer and poweredvd 8 codec + latest patch you wont get that green pixelation when hardware acceleration is enabled. Well that's the case with my ATI HD4850 anyway.

Just be aware that correct under XP but overlay doesn't support hardware acceleration under Vista. If you want hardware acceleration under Vista you must use EVR, Overlay or VMR9 will not work.

Overlay is also an inferior renderer than VMR9 so even under XP can't deliver some of the benefits that VMR9 does which is potentially why it works.

Where do i choose the overlay as video renderer? under video renderer settings i only have VMR9 and EVR, and currently i am on XP so VMR9.

kiwijunglist I am on XP yup i just tried on my Vista x64 machine and it is the different driver problem i am guessing as it works perfectly on vista.

I've tried both VMR7 and VMR9 and they look no different to overlay on my TV. They do show tearing though. And they dont support displaying video full screen on tv while desktop is visable to use.
