I am trying to get DVB-T going using an Asus laptop with an AverMedia TV-tuner card. I have downloaded Mediaportal and set up the TV configuration. I am living in Paraparaumu and selected the DVB-T site in Kapiti (Ngarara). However it does not detect any signal from that site. If I try Mt Kaukau or the Manawatu site it does detect signals and channels. I suspect that the signal strength from these sites is not adequate for Kapiti. I have seen some TV in Mediaportal but it is erratic. Is the Kapiti site not broadcasting and should that be the DVB-T site I should be accessing for the best reception?

Hi, Ngarara is the prime transmitter for Seaview Rd, infact all of Paraparumu, although in some areas (not Seaview) KauKau can be seen but typically Ngarara will give better signals.

What antenna are you using and what condition is it in, purhaps you need a site survey to find an optimum location to get good signals, PM me if interested, I am in Waikanae.

Thanks for your reply. I am using an indoor arial, in fact the one that came supplied with the tuner card. The thing is that the Manawatu and Mt Kaukau sites always produce signals on various frequencies when I do a channel search, but the Ngarara site never does! Do you happen to know what frequencies I should be checking?

Hi, in Pararaumu you will be very unlikely to get reliable reception on an internal antenna from any site, infact I would say near impossible to get any consistant or reliable results. KauKau and Wharatie have the same channels but KauKau is Hpol and Wharite Vpol, 48, 50, 59, thats 690, 706 and 780MHz, Ngarara Vpol is 45, 53,57 which is 666,730, and 762MHz. Without channel info you will not know the diff between Wharite and Ngarara as they will be in the same direction and polarity.

What still puzzles me is, why does a channel search on Ngarara never give any results? Mt Kaukau always gives search results??
I would have expected to get consistent search results from a transmitter closeby...

Hi, as I said without a decent antenna I would not expect any consistant results, to be quite honest I am surprised you get anything at all. One of my sidelines is FreeView installs, I have test meters antennas basking in the back of my truck, PM me if you want an obligation free site survey, todays a good day as on roof activities are not on.
