Im using DVBViewer + Hauppauge DVB-T HD tuner
Graphics card is ATi 4870
h.264 codec is the cyberlink powerdvd 7 one.. works a charm

my only problem is.. enabling hardware acceleration (dxva) only works for channel 1 + 2
channel 3 takes up about half the screen in the top left
all other channels are scrambled as anything

with dxva disabled. all channels are fine. but cpu usage is up around %50 constant
dxva enabled.. and cpu usage rarely hits %10

id appreciate anyhelp getting dxva to work properly. thanks

If you want working H.264 hardware acceleration it is the only choice.

ATI's simply doesn't work well. The odd person seems to get this working but 99% of people just give up and buy NVidia. ATI really need to fix their dodgy drivers.

really ? well thanks for that.. i was assuming it was just because the 4870 was only recently released
ill still hope that someone with an ATI card can offer a few tips.. for now im gonna download/install the latest drivers..
they were released just 2 days ago.. see if they help any

You don't need nvidia. Hardware acceleration works fine on my 4850, using both arcsoft and powerdvd 8 codecs in mediaportal. I suggest you use one of these two with the latest updates rather than pdvd7.
Check your deinterlacing settings also - TV3 is interlaced. What about the other SD channels? (also interlaced).

Using coreAVC with hardware acceleration. same problem yet
TV 1 + TV 2 = mint
TV 3 and others are unwatchable. 70% of the stream is green, everything is blocky

PC specs are:
Intel Core2Duo 3.2ghz (1:1 fsb:ram ratio)
2gb ddr2 800mhz ram
650w Corsair PSU
ATi 4870 GPU

personally i consider this a great setup. so its definatly capable
its just a software problem that i cant find. as the 2nd poster said.. it could be a deinterlacing problem
which im fiddling with now

Wha? I didn't think CoreAVC did hardware acceleration? "- GPU support (to be added**) ** GPU scheduled to be added at a later date"
Or do you mean don't worry about it just use software decoding?

I suggest uninstalling graphics drivers, run a driver cleaner then install the latest ones. Then attempt to use PowerDVD8 - the trial im told works.

theres an option in coreavc config for hardware deinterlacing.. im assuming its the same thing as theres no other hardware option

anyway.. i went back to the powerdvd 7 codec.. put it on hardware accel.
and all of a sudden its working :/

the thing is.. when im using hardware acceleration.. its highly dependent on my signal
leaving the antenna where it is.. i can watch all channels perfectly.. until i turn on hardware support
then the i get mass blotchiness.. dropped frames etc.. sometimes the signal will be sweet and things will be fine.. then itll go crap

i guess ive solved my problems.. just need to get better signal :/

i live in mt roskill and am pointing my indoor UHF amplified antenna at the skytower (which from my roof i can see)
software mode: perfect
hardware mode: not so great

Sorry, bad reply. Use CoreVAC and ditch hardware acceleration. Whoever put CoreAVC together did a lovely job, it's an elegant algorithm that works well, the hit on the processor is minimal and it is a silky smooth experience. I've tried a few codecs with average results, but on an HTPC Core AVC sings.

ArcSoft indicated to me that the ATI green screen corruption problem was resolved around the middle of this year. They indicated you needed the ATI 8.5 drivers or higher, along with a ArcSoft decoder dated newer than July. I suspect Cyberlink also has a newer revision of their decoder which will work with the changes in the ATI driver.

IMHO if you attempt to go down the Freeview|HD path without a codec and video card supporting hardware accleration you are just wasting your time. Why max out a dual core CPU trying to decode TV3 (and put up with the inferior picture quality & deinterlacing) when hardware acceleration will do this for you and deliver 5% - 10% CPU utilisation which keeps your machine running cooler?

Yeah couldn't agree more, software decoding is such a sledge hammer approach. NVIDIA 8x00+CyberlinkPDVD=Decoding perfection. (Even a cheapo $70 one will do just fine).

I guess it might not be an option though if you need a specific card for gaming but I guess that's my most of us tend to keep the HTPC for HTPC.

Oh yeah Vista EVR also goes a LONG way!

I Got my ATI HD2600 Mobility working last night with acceleration!!!!!!!!!!!
Simply download the ATICyberlink H.264 decoder from http://docs.cyberlink.com/cinema/ati/h264_decoder/enu/index.jsp

My cpu is runs around 5 to 8%. I still think the quality on core avc is better there must be some way to tweak the ati decoder.
Im watching freeview at 50fps XD
