Hey, I thought I would finally make a post since ive been reading these forums for a long time.

I have just moved locations from West Wellington (Kelburn) where initially I had MediaPortal working with my Hauppuage HVR 900h.

My new location is East Wellinton right by the Wellington Airport/Tower, Rongotai/Kilbirinie/Lyall Bay, and after furious scannnig and whatnot I can no longer get any signals.

My antena used is the small one that came with my tuner. I am not 100% on how the antena works for digital TV so i have scanned both horizontal and vertical...but nothing.

Does anyone who lives remotely in this area or have any idea what i can do to fix this? preferably the cheapest way.

Cheers

CRAZOR

Sounds like you need a better aerial. You probably have line of sight coverage to Mt Kaukau from there but the signal obviously isn't quite strong enough to work with the small one that came with the card.

Rather than buying an outdoor external aerial you could probably get by with an larger internet aerial, there are a few people here that have purchased one from DSE (sorry can't remember the model) and had good success. Somebody who's got one of these might post with the model number.

Yeah, that would be the L4660 (http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/490ed7d401cbea502740c0a87f3b06dc/Product/View/L4660). I live in Strathmore (other side of the airport) and tried my luck with this and it worked fine. The signal quality is around 42% most of the time for all channels, and all play smoothly for me, except for TV3 which sometimes suffers from a low framerate. I think because of the higher bitrate TV3 requires a really strong signal to get close-to-perfect playback so you'll have to take that into consideration, although you are closer to Mt. Kaukau so you might get better reception. If you get this model make sure you turn the gain all the way up, and try both cable/antenna settings when scanning if you get no results first time around.
