Hi,

I've just bought one of these devices: Panasonic DMR-HWT260 and it tells me it can't fast forward recorded TV. Is this for real or is there some work around or a setting I've missed? This may just be a problem in New Zealand.

Don't have that model, but we do have a Panasonic DMR-BWT760. Fast-forwarding works fine.

I have that model. Don't recollect having a problem fast-forwarding any recorded channel.

If I recall, there was some kind of Freeview imposed limitation on skipping forward small time increments (i.e. to skip past ads) but fast forwarding still worked.

Was looking through the Freeview specification the other day and yes, Freeview certified devices aren't allowed to skip forward/back by less than 10 minutes. Funnily enough, Vodafone TV didn't have a problem with letting you do that.

Yep, Freeview PVR Device Profile 2020, Item 11.4 (page 18):

Fast playback at speeds up to at least x16 shall be possible in both forward and reverse directions. At all speeds, the user shall be presented with a series of images taken from the video stream as they are passed.

PVR manufactures are discouraged from implementing a skip facility, however If there is a skip button available to the PVR remote, then a single skip interval, shall not be less than 600 seconds in the forward or reverse directions (e.g. provides a 10 minute chapter feature)

But that's only for a skip forward/back button. Fast-forward and rewind both work as you'd expect. The intention would look to be to prevent easy skipping of ads by making you deal with the pain of fast-forwarding.

Thanks - found the problem and sorted now.
