So I bought a pinnacle nano stick 73e and I've been having a hard time getting any 3rd party software to work with it. The software that comes with the device seems to work but besides to being buggy and horrible it only gives me a trial version of the ac3 audio decoder needed for tv3. This means I must delete the registries and reinstall the program every 14 days. I'm really sick of this so I'm desperate to get any kind of 3rd party software working.

I've tried DVBViewer but can't find any channels with it

I've tried Media Portal which can find channels and play the audio but I can't get any video out of it.

I've tried the media center built into vista but if I remember right it says it is not supported in my area during the wizard. Actually no I think media center can't find any channels but either way it doesn't work.

Can anybody recommend software to try? I will give it a shot and report back the reason why I can't get it working. Then you can help me fix the problem or recommend another app.

What version of windows?
What GFX card do you have?
Which version of Powerdvd do you have?

If you can scan for channels and then get audio out of Mediaportal i'd tend to think it's just a driver issue. Can you post a picture of your chosen drivers in the mediaportal setup page to let us see if you're using ones that might have issues?

MediaPortal needs third party video codecs to work. Either PowerDVD or ffdshow H.264/AVC. The Twinhan site did have some cutdown codec versions for their tuners.

Of course depending how attached you are to Vista (Yuk - and I use it) you could try the RC version of Windows 7 (dual-boot even). It works pretty much straight out of the box (download).

I'd rather exhaust my other options before going win 7 mainly because i have lots of bits and pieces from microsoft like windows updates and I don't know where the original installers are so I would need to redownload them all.

i'm using the drivers that come with pinnacle TVCenter pro v4.99.2088. I've also tried v5.4.0.3032 which gets the same result from media portal but the sound in TVCenter doesn't work. (a lot of people get this). I'm not sure what the exact name of the driver is because it comes inside the tv center pro package.

I don't have power dvd. but i have ffdshow, coreAVC and pinnacle H.264 decoder

I might not have been very clear in my previous post. What i mean is the drivers (codecs) for audio and video processing you chose in the MP setup. See attached pic for what i have set. Fundamentally you should have the Monogram AAC codec installed for DVB-T and also ffdshow or PowerDVD9 to cover most bases. I have the CoreAVC codec too to do the DVB-T video processing.

I made my settings identical the ones in the picture but still no video. I can stream the video to vlc or record something and play it back in vlc but its quite jerky most of the time.

ac3 codec has expired again... need to reinstall TVCenter pro. I really really really really need to get this working with anything other than TVCenter pro!!

Hi, I had the same issue with my recently purchased nanostick.

To get your activation codes, you'll need to contact PCTV support directly, or via Phoenix Distribution here in Auckland.

PCTV support are in Germany btw, and it took about 4 days in total till i got sent my activation codes.

You'll need to send them your PVcenter pro passport number, as well as the serial number on the CD
