hey there guys, i have just gone digital. yey :D any way im trying to figure which way to point my antenna,
im trying to point it in the same direction as everyone else in my area (top of houghton bay road)
and the old uhf (rusty) areil was pointing directly north

which ive no idea what thats supposed to be aiming at.. kau kau maybe???
any way i have piss poor reception and the only channel i can get is prime (digital) but thats quite blocky/ hesitates,
any help greatly appreciated

You already had a UHF aerial, so were you receiving analogue UHF channels OK? If so what channel numbers were you receiving them on?

Kaukau transmits analogue Prime on channel 60, and analogue Maori TV on channel 44.

there was an old rusty uhf antenna on the roof, when i moved in (just recently) so i bought a new one and chucked it up, i havn't tryed to tune the tv via analogue, ill plug in the tv to the new antenna now and tune it,
and get back to you in a minute

ok done a tune, my tv doesnt do channels as such it just gives you the freq. on uhf
i get a fuzzy maori tv on 655MHz and a fuzzy prime on 783MHz.
i also get clear (well coded) sky channels on
527, 559, 719, 751MHZ (the last two are a bit fuzzy

im in lyall bay and using a usb reciever with a tiny antenna and can (usually) get all the freeview channels picked up with no problem. was thinking about making an antenna to get a bit better reception.

there are antennas on mt kau kau, fitzherbert and baxters knob

That's channel 44 and 60.

i also get clear (well coded) sky channels on 527, 559, 719, 751MHZ (the last two are a bit fuzzy

Channels 28, 32, 52 and 56.
This all confirms that your aerial is pointed (at least roughly) towards Kaukau, which is also the main Freeview|HD transmitter for Wellington.

Now that you know that the aerial you chucked-up is pointed roughly at Kaukau, it might be worth taking some time to align it more carefully as a first step.

ok cool ill use the scanchannelsdba program and try and get a decent signal and strength
fingers crossed i can get this pc based palava to all come together,

oh and if you want an uhf antenna, i got mine at coreys electrical for $50 using my trade discount
dunno if thats a good price or not, i usually only buy electrical gear from them :D
