Hi i live in pah road royal oak auckland currently im using the tv shown on the link http://www.bondandbond.co.nz/audiotv/tv/lcd-tvs/acer-aspire-x1700-055-desktop/prod11291.html. This tv has built in free-view.. but i dont have the proper anteena ..the channels i can currently get are TV One, TV Two, TV Three and C4 but all the channels except TV Two have interference. Could any one recommend a cheap solution for this issue...

It's always better to use an outdoor aeriel if you can - the best option of those listed looks like:

Of course installing an outdoor aeriel involves a lot more effort than an indoor one. There's a lot of useful information on this Aerials and Television website about aerials themselves, how to install them, cables, signal splitters etc. Just keep in mind that it is a British site, so none of the transmitter specific information there is relevant, but all of the basics remain the same.

My recommendation would be to call in an aerial installer to do everything for you.

If indeed you are only receiving the analog VHF channels, e.g., TV1/2/3/C4 with interference then there is probably no hope of receiving UHF cahannels, including DVB-T transmissions, with an indoor antenna so forget it. Indoor antennas are generally covered by the same laws of physics so by definition if one doesn't work then the other won't work.

EDIT: I'm 16 km from Sugarloaf and indoor antenna of any sort is useless. You are 20 Km from Waiatarua so go figure.

Outdoor Antenna is the way to go, expect to pay $200 approx for install, unless you know what you're doing. If you already have a sky disk then you can utilise the cabling they have run to your TV simply replace the dish with a UHF aerial and get the right plugs to terminate at the aerial on the roof.

Dick Smith have some easy install instructions and it'll cost you $120 approx to do it that way (assuming you have the cabling alreaydi n place)

Indoor aerials are generally pretty lame unless youre in the sweet spot to get a strong signal.

Not quite, there are more sites for DVB than analog, and UHF tends to get into buildings a bit cleaner than VHF does with all its multipathing.

I am in beach haven which is probably about 20km away (guessing since google maps doesnt seem to want to give as the crow flys directions)

VHF channels on rabbits ears are unusable - ghosting, herringbone, noise etc.

Freeview works fine. Thats a $3 set of them with the loops of them for UHF. I think most of the reception is coming from the lousy cable it has, not the antenna, but whatever, it works.

As stated above, from 20 km you are wasting your time. Get an antenna installer to do a proper job.

Yeah sure, as long as it can see the NW sky. You'll need a DVB-S receiver as well as dish cannot be plugged into TV.

Remember - if you get a dish you will also need to buy a Freeview satellite STB as the tuner in your TV wont work with the satellite version of Freeview.

Also, the picture quality on the satellite version of Freeview is poor compared to the HD version.
