I have recently the panasonic TH P42V20 It has a built in freeview recorder that records onto usb HDD. It can record what you re watching or allows you to cache and pause live tv but not use the freeview guide to program record or series link.

It appears these options are available overseas.

I asked through the freeview website whether this was an issue with the TV or lack of support from freeview and got a nonsensical answer that recommended contacting panasonic.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The feature isn't available on NZ models.

Essetially the MHEG5 support in the TV is there only for the EPG. Supporting the MHEG PVR functionaility would require a lot more work.

It is a bit rubbish if the panasonic cannot record in NZ given the website says and manuals say they can record all DVB-T content.

Where did you read that?

It just doesn't allow PVR functionality via the built in Freeview EPG.
As stated elsewhere in this forum, it's pretty much only good for 'live pause'.

Yeah live pause and record what you see. Which is crap when they sell it as an Freeview HD recorder built in. You cant even record the digital signal and watch the analogue!

It's the same as Samsung range.
The feature is simply a non-event unless you use it as a live pause device.
It is a Freeview HD recorder though, so that's fine. It's just that it's a terrible version...

They must knobble the functionality NZ models? That sucks. Hopefully a future firmware upgrade will sort it out.

As explained above it's simply that the NZ models don't support the MHEG5 PVR EPG profile. To enable PVR functionality they need to support this. Nobody is crippling the feature in NZ, it's simply that it's not supported due to the fact they haven't implenmented it.

Some other countries use EIT as a baseline EPG, however this is gradually changing as most new DVB-T rollouts all opt for MHEG5.

Will you see this in the future? I doubt it. Gaining Freeview approval with a TV that supprted full EPG for recording with no DRM would probably not be possible. The Freeview guidelines are very strict when it comes to recording/transfer of digital content.
