Guys, can anyone confirm whether BBC World is available on aerial freeview?

Or is it a satellite only channel.

The little things make the biggest difference.

I'm pretty sure it's only Intelsat 5

Aslo, you need a larger than normal(ie sky) dish to receive it.

I can't see it ever being on Freeview unless BBC paid for it. Space is a premium on DVB-T and there's no space as far as I'm aware on Freeview Satellite.

the only way to get BBC on freeview is on TV1 between the hours 1am to 5.30am approx

BBC World is avaliable on Intelsat 5, and can be received with a 90cm dish and a C-Band LNB. I've had this for a while now and I think it is well worth the money.

BBC World has some great technology and travel shows which we don't tend to see here in NZ when it plays on TV1 between 1am and 6am due to the time difference.

Yep, sure did. It's great actually, but only problem is that it doesn't broadcast the guide data. Need to work that through with something like bigscreen EPG or similar, but haven't had the time.

Yep, no problem at all. You need to choose Intelsat 2, instead of Intelsat 5... This kind of annoys me a little in that the Microsoft database is out of date. My understanding is that this satellite is well out of date and has been replaced by Intelsat 5, however it still comes up.

The other one that is still on the list, but is now different is Optus B3. You need to select this instead for Optus D2.

Usually finding a satellite in the list just means you are selecting one that has the known transponders in the list.

And therefore usually there's nothing stopping you from creating your own satellite, calling it whatever you want and entering the data for the TP's you want to scan on it.

It might be different in Microsoft Media Centre, but you shouldn't really be limited to what is on the list. There's usually some user defined options, and even if there isn't there shouldn't be anything stopping you from picking absolutely any satellite and changing the info to what you want it to be.

Hi Jaxson.

Windows 7 Media Center seems to work a little differently from say MediaPortal, but I suspect you are right in that the satellite selection is superfluous as you can manually add and scan transponders.

With regard to editing the satellite list, and in turn the transponders on that satellite, I have not seen any way to do this. The way Microsoft has chosen to do this is firstly based on your postcode, and then it gives you a list of satellites. The transponders are then downloaded from a central database, but this is not up-to-date. This is frustrating as there is no way to go in and globally change this.

This makes doing a reinstall a long-winded process as I don't know of any way to backup this data, and then in turn restore it.

Sounds like a cool system that's now out of date and inflexible.

Yeah, you are right in that you can pick anyone off the list and add extra data in, and take off the data that's there. If you can't edit the name or this extra bit then it really does get quite restrictive.

Good to hear you guys have got it all sorted though.

As I got an email to say that you had replied to this thread, I was on the MediaPortal website and thinking to myself that I must give this another go...

My only issue with MediaPortal is that Microsoft really does seem to have the edge when it comes to usability. I know that this is a hotly debated topic, but in my household at lease it is my wife who I need to convince!
