Living in Northland the only option for freeview is via satellite. We bought recently a plasma tv and a second satellite receiver. We had freeview for some years now, with a coship receiver/old tv and want now to have a second one for the second room (we haven't installed it yet), that we can change the channels independently. Neither of the 2 receivers has a HDMI connection, but would this make a difference anyway? The last days everytings looks a bit like slow motion/strangely delayed on both tvs, the plasma and the very old one in the other room. I wonder if it is a fault in the old receiver or is it caused by the set up only with the composite cables, which was done by the guy from the shop?

Are both your satellite boxes Coship models?

hdmi is just another way of connecting your device to your TV. On most devices it is the best video quality but there can be little difference in some cases too. If the device upscales etc then hdmi can be good, but if it's just same resolution the there should be little difference to component cables.

If you have your box connected by composite cable only (one yellow rca plug type cable for video) then you will notice a difference going to the better quality component connection type, (3x video cables, one for red, one for blue and one for green).

To be honest, I'd recommend a freeview approved satellite box now as they are a lot cheaper than they used to be. The Warehouse sells one regularly on sale for $80 or so. This gets you a nice EPG as well and this one offeres component out as well.

If you are receiving SBS on vertical polarisation, and you want to have independent tuning from each STB, you will need to install a multiswitch in the coaxial cable(s) from the LNB, and run a separate coaxial cable from there to each box.
Something like this:

A simple splitter won't do the trick as if either box is receiving a Freeview or other service on H-pol, it will stop the other accessing V-pol. This does of course assume that your LNB is capable of delivering both polarisations simultaneously (a great many are), and it requires running two coax cables from outputs of the LNB to the multiswitch.

I heartily recommend SBS. Enjoy if you can, while you can.

The second one is a DTVS-1B which is not connected at the moment. I see, I should get us the other cables, that could improve and also change the old one to the new one for starters. The coship was bought when all the approved ones were just too expensive for us, you are right the disadvantage is the missing EPG.
Also many thanks for the tips regarding the multiswitch, very helpfull thanks. We might get somebody to do it for us, because we are both not able to go on ladders age related.
