Hi,
Is there a way to watch Europe channels (Mostly UK and Turkey) with a dreambox? I have no idea how dreambox works, also do you know any sattelite shop that can install and set it up for me?
Also how's that getting passwords from the net works?

UK channels are not over NZ. Some Turkish channels are put up on Optus d2 from Sydney. They are free to air. All you need is a dvb-s satellite decoder and a dish pointed to d2. They aren't a part of freeview.

Depends entirely where in the world you're located. Assuming you're in NZ the answer will also depends on exactly what channels you're looking to watch, and whether any of the channels are available in this part of the world.

To sum it up the answer is probably no. And you're probably not going to find many people willing to help you legally set up an install that breaks the law if you're wanting to use the softcam functionality of the Dreambox.

You can get BBC world also on Intelsat 5.

thanks for all the answers. I have no idea what is illegal and what is not! So card sharing is illegal right? looks like there's no way I can watch Turkish channels.
So dreambox is like a sattelite receiver and nothing else? If I install a normal sattelite dish it'll do the same thing?

Edit: also when you connect dreambox to internet does it make it illegal again? I just read few articles about downloading stuff from internet to watch other channels?

Essentially, yes. There may be a loophole if you you have a subscription to a service, and share the card with another device at the same address, but I can't be sure of that.

As mentioned, there is at least one Turkish channel on Optus D2 - there is no reason why you cannot install a system to receive that. As for the majority of channels available in Turkey, if they are not broadcast from a satellite towards NZ, you can't receive them here.

Yes - that's what it is, although I believe they offer recording options. I'm not especially familiar with the brand or models.

All a satellite dish alone will receive is bird crap and rain. You'll need an LNB and a receiver of some sort to get anywhere.

Without knowing what you read it is hard to comment sensibly. Probably it relates to card sharing, which is illegal and useless if there is no transmission to decode, or streaming of video content, in which case it is not strictly anything to do with satellite TV at all, although some boxes will provide this function.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like dreambox can record programmes, but there're also other satellites that can record too. So if I get a decent satellite receiver will I still be able to get these or do I have to turn the dish to receive signal? here is the list:

There are several ways to receive signals from multiple satellites:
- multiple dishes, each pointed at a specific satellite;
- a motorised dish;
- multiple LNBs on an arm offset from the centre of a single dish (suitable only for satellites in the same general direction);
- then I think there is something called a toroidal dish that can be used.

You also need to have the necessary switching mechanism in place, so the correct LNB is selected. Most boxes will provide for this, and better boxes will have provision for driving motorised systems.

Note also that some of the signals are weaker and may require a bigger dish, and that there are both C and Ku band transmissions, requiring different LNBs.

One possible configuration, from memory, is a single fixed 90-120 cm dish pointed at Intelsat 5 with 3 LNBs (a primary C band and two offset Ku band) able to receive Intelsat 5, Optus D1, and Optus D2 or C1.

I don't know what internet facilities the Dreambox range provides.
