Hey guys,
I am seeking advices here hoping I can have better ideas to decide my career.
Here is some info of my background:
I hold a bachelor degree in Computer Science, but unfortunately I have very least experience on Java, .NET, C#. :(
Passionate about PHP programming, hence after graduating I have been a freelance web developer, had around 20 websites built for clients so far.
Have been working at the Telco company for 4 years (customer service rep/technical support) and found the role was a bit off the IT.
Luckily since 2 years ago I shifted back into a IT field and started working as Application Support Analyst in a corporate, quite enjoy the role and company is happy to pay for my course. I asked company to get me into MS SQL courses as I think this is more practical with my current role and aiming to become data warehousing/business intelligence specialist.
But now I am thinking whether I should bring my career back in line with what I’m most passionate about – Web development. But on the other hand I don't have commercial/industry experience as a PHP developer, I don't have experiences on PHP framework, so I might need start it as junior developer (a bit worry about the salary)? Or are there any programming courses I can take so I can get into an immediate or senior web developer role (a bit more than the average paid in IT industry)?
Web Developer vs Data Warehousing/BI
What is the career path like for a Web Developer (like what can I aim to be)?
Which career do you guys think will be easier to pursue in my situation?
In long term, which is the better career in NZ market (e.g. more opportunities, make more money, less stress, better work life balance etc...)?
Thanks heaps in advance.
