Hi Guys,

After 3 years of working in SME, I'll be going to a corporate environment next month - at IBM.
As what many have known, there's no coffee and tea there. While it's funny for others, what matters to me is the take home pay. What it's like working at IBM? Do I need to wear formal clothing or business casual attire? Do they have perks such as training and certifications  (eg. for RHCE, CCNA)?

Thanks.

I'd have thought this kind of information would be provided BEFORE your first day - an introduction pack, during the HR interviews when signing the employment agreement, etc...

Didn't you get anything?

My wife worked there for 4+ years, IBM is a very conservative company, they have a strict clear desk policy and you will get warnings for leaving even business cards on your desk. They have a  conservative dress code.

Mental note.. never apply for a job at IBM...

Friend of mine worked as a tech for them for a number of years, doing warranty repairs etc.... he left about 5 years ago.  Ill just say IBM are last on his list to goto for any future jobs. But on the corporate side of things, could be completely different, maybe time has changed things as well.
But he did have to be in business attire in the workshop away from the customers eyes....  go figure.

Thanks KiwiNZ. So that dress code is for 5 days a week? No dress down on Fridays?

I will repeat the question... didn't you get anything from HR?

Umm 5 days, I recall and argument that one staff member had, he wore $300+ jeans on a friday and had to change so he purchased $50 pants from the Warehouse. But there was no such thing as casual Friday for her but she was an Account Exec so she was in customer meetings anyway.

To be fair, some $300 jeans are just hideous.

Sorry I didn't notice that freitasm. Nope, didn't get those info during the interview.
But we'll see once the papers are sent to me, probably more details (including some HR policies) will be included.

These are the questions you ask in an interview. You're interviewing the company to see if it's a match as much as they are interviewing you for the same.

You should be able to contact the person who conducted the interview to ask any more questions.....   get those gaps filled in before signing anything.
