Hi all,

Hope anyone can help me with my problem. I have a domain name (co.nz) with Godaddy the domain expires on the 30.06.2014. I was about to renew my domain on Friday 30.05.2014 where I noticed my domain did not show under domains within the Godaddy control panel, had a little look around and found under expired. I clicked on the redemption button paid the renew fee and thought okay everything is fine now but the domain still did not show under domains in control panel. I did not worry much then because I still could receive emails pointing records to that domain. It all started when emails stopped working on 31.05.2014 logged back into godaddy and still no domain showing up so I rang Godaddy to see what's going on. The explained since co.nz is an international domain name I would have to renew it 2 month in advanced otherwise domain name goes into redemption mode and it takes 72 hours for the registrar to release the domain back to Godaddy. Its been now over 72 hours and I still don't have the domain showing under control panel. Godaddy keeps telling me I have paid the renewal fee and they send the request to NZ domain registrar to release the name all we can do is wait now. Can someone tell me if that is true and how long will it take till my domain comes back online. Is there a number I could ring in New Zealand to speed up the progress. My business is relying on emails but at the moment no emails no website nothing is working because the domain name is somewhere on hold according to godaddy and they cant do anything till some place in Registar in NZ releases the domain name. I am really worried what has happened and nobody told me I had to pay the renewal fee 2 month in advanced I assumed paying 1 month prior expiry would have been enough.

Any help would be appreciated. Has anyone had similar issues and what did you do?

Thanks
Daniel

This sounds... strange. If you registered until 30 June then you are not required to pay two months before that. You can pay on the 30 June and it should just work.

I use GoDaddy for a few TLD (co.uk, .co.in) and never had this problem - I always renew my registrations a couple of weeks before the expiry All my .co.nz are registered in New Zealand anyway.

Contacted the DNC and asked what's the story?

Nz domains should renew instantly. I suggest not using a overseas company for .nz domains , there is no need to. If you ask the provider for the UDAI and transfer if elsewhere. .nz domains transfer instantly. Also you should make a compliant to the domain name commissioner, as what you have said they told you doesn't sound right.

Sounds like what godaddy told you is crap. Maybe their internal systems aren't very good in respect to .nz but any registrar can get a domain back from Pending Release to live again in Real time.

A .nz Domain name (if you don't renew it before it expires goes into "Pending Release" ) can be renewed straight away (In real time) for up to 90 days after its not renewed.

Whilst in Pending Release you can actually move it to a new Registar if you have the UDAI and then get the new Registrar to renew it.

I suggest someone like Metaname.

If You can Personal Message me the Domaiin I can maybe help you out..

By the looks of the DNC website, it looks like godaddy is just a reseller of .nz domains. Not sure who godaddy buy domains off. But they still should be providing correct information about .nz domains.

Use an NZ registrar. See if you can work out who administers the NZ domains, call them up and get the domain transferred to an NZ place, 1st domains and discount domains NZ are both fine. I recently did something similar with UK domains, discountdomains.co.uk charged GBP50 to transfer a domain away, I went to nominet and bulk transferred them all out for 12 quid.

Hi all. Quick update. I logged on this morning to check again. Finally domain is showing under domains now but according to godaddy it will take another 48 hours till all records are start working again. At the moment under control panel it shows domain records temp unavailable. Lesson learnt "pay for renewal on godady 2 month in advanced otherwise big issues".

You should get the UDAI and transfer to a New Zealand registrar.

Defently thinking about it also asked godaddy about transferring the domain they have said it's a big job todo as well and it will also take 48 hours. To be honest I am getting bit tired they must attend some course where they tell them just tell customer any numer between 24 and 48 hours. Very bad customer service if you asked me and I always thought New Zealand customer service was bad. Anyway I really appreciate all of you guys help and I will keep you posted with the outcome till then let's all wait some hours according to godaddy :-)

Out of interest, I'm sure many of us are very curious, either what is the domain so we can look up the WHOIS data, or (and I'm sure we all understand given the current state if you don't want to publish it on the forums), go to http://www.dnc.org.nz and type in the domain name on the left and hit the search domains button, and copy the details that look like:

Query Time/Date    13:30 3/6/2014
Status    Active
Date Registered    10:22 2/12/2007
Date Billed Until    10:22 2/12/2014
Date Last Modified    16:15 22/3/2014
Include in DNS?    yes
Domain Signed    no

Registrar Name    Metaname
Registrar Address1    PO Box 32133
Registrar City    Christchurch
Registrar Province    Canterbury
Registrar Postalcode    8147
Registrar Country    NZ (NEW ZEALAND)
Registrar Phone    +64 800 00 12 93

(You may need to first copy into Notepad or similar first to lose the formatting, and then copy from Notepad into the RTE here, just a tip, horrible table layout on the DNC site)

Super curious how Go Daddy are registering NZ domains now....   (But after poor experiences with even transfering .com's myself, certainly not surprised)

Transferring a domain takes a minute to do, so definitely is not a big job. Maybe they are referring to your DNS records? I have never had those sort of problems with nz domains, and have been managing them for over 15 years when it was still all done by domainz.

freitasm: You should get the UDAI and transfer to a New Zealand registrar.

The OP's problem seems to be that Go Daddy isn't connected to the SRS, and that Go Daddy is using a 'backdoor' method of selling .NZ's, i.e. via another registrar that is connected to the SRS as a proxy.  I can't recall if the .NZ rules are that domain holders must be given the current UDAI at all times, it certainly seems to be the case with SRS connected registrars that once it changes they notify of the new one by e-mail, so the OP may have a copy of his domain's current UDAI, but it's possible that Go Daddy are blissfully unaware of ANY of the .NZ rules.

My question earlier is simply to clarify, and potentially recommend outreach to the DNC to clarify the rules and maybe also reach out the SRS registrar of record in complaint because the behaviour is IMO unacceptable for .NZ domains.

Edit: I'm a twit, forgot to include the list of SRS connected registrars: http://dnc.org.nz//story/authorised-registrars

The way things are going at moment I rather not transfer anything. I lost the trust with godaddy and I rather wait before they screw up even more. Regarding Whois I already looked it up and surprisingly it's some place in Germany which I told godaddy how come my domain is in Germany which they replied with that's not what's showing in our system. So yes again the information I am getting with all the diffrent stories they tell me each time I ring them I would need a whole day just to post all the stuff.

I believe all resellers have to abide by the same terms as the official registrar they are reselling from. That includes providing UDAIs in a timely manner. So they also have to know all the .nz rules. Perhaps registrars who sell to resellers should require their reseller to do a test before approving them.

So, that sounds like either Key-Systems GmbH or InterNetX GmbH based on the list of SRS connected registrars. OUCH. And like I said, that is exactly what it should be showing, only SRS connected registrars show in Registrar details on .NZ domains in whois.  Go Daddy have lied to you again.

I'm going to look into a couple of things, because I'm sure I've read something relevant recently I just need to find it.

I wonder where godaddys support is based, as it sounds like you aren't communicating with people where english is their first language, so they maybe misinterpreting your questions. If you requested a UDAI code, then that should be provided , no questions asked.

How have you got the domain setup, eg. Are you using godaddys nameservers and DNS service, or hosting. If you are solely using them for domain registration, then there is no risk in transferring the domain, as long as you transfer it to a good quality domain provider.
