What "mainframe"? Unisys A Series, ClearPath? IBM Z Series? What is mainframe for you?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they mean normal computer cases, having often heard people refer to standard desktops as "mainframes".
I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. Bassai:
I mean mainframe server racks/cabinets not PC
OK, so you're after cheap rack units. What height and depth do you prefer?
Perhaps phone some of the ex-lease computer dealers or computer recyclers. I've had excellent experience with these guys:

Okay a generic 19" server rack isn't a mainframe case but okay we can roll with that.
I can't recommend anywhere to buy cheap rack cases (other than Trademe and recyclers as mentioned by Dynamic) , but assuming you want to mount standard servers in the racks, just buy APC or something similar, A little bit of penny pinching is not worth the pain that cheap crappy racks will cause.

Your server vendor will likely have a range or racks. APC (the UPS manufacturer) as mentioned has an excellent range.
The only cheap brand I can think of is Dynamix which is a local brand which will be just relabelling an imported unit. I've bought half a dozen or more in the last 5 years and never had any complaints about them. The company does not sell direct to the public, but they have a public web site you can use to browse their products (http://www.dynamix.co.nz/index.html?do=NETRACKS&code=NETRACKS look for Network Cabinets on the left). From there you can type a product code into your favourite price hunting portal like https://price.geekzone.co.nz/
The last one I bought was a Digitus brand. This was a pre-assembled half rack on wheels. Happy with the build quality again. You could have a look at the importer's web site again and then search for the product code you find, as again the importer does not sell direct to the public. http://www.dove.co.nz/products/desktops-notebooks-and-servers/server-cabinets

After looking I decided on a Infinte Solutions system (European quality) www.infsol.co.nz
42U 800x1200x2090 the price was ONLY $1650 + GST
Cable Direct Price: $3,028.83 + GST
Ascent Price: $2,064.23 + GST
ETL Price $2454 + GST
Some of these wanted me to take an account, others demanded I get an account before they would even give me the bloody price! Others said I had to place minimum orders! What a hassle!
Cant believe the price variations!
Thanks for your help guys!
