Hi there

I have been asked to create a website and I will be using wordpress to create it.

I host a few in the states but this site is only for NZ and Aus/NZ traffic.

I am looking for some recommendations for hosting in NZ, in particular for wordpress sites.

My main requirement is having a fast host - i'm not worried about spending a bit more on hosting!

Also need to register the .co.nz domain name so any recs on the best place for this would be great too.

Thanks in advance!

For the domain name https://metaname.net is well recommended by both myself and others around here.

For web hosting https://sitehost.nz/ is also very good for NZ hosting otherwise look at something like Cloudways.

Also have a look at and implement Cloudflare.

For cheapest domains price on .co.nz's i think thats with DomainsDirect at the moment at 16.50 p/y

However if you want it all in one place, majority of domain hosts in NZ will run Plesk or Cpanel which uses 1 click application installers so its easy to get started, look into any of the following:

- Freeparking

- Openhost

- 1stDomains

Will probably be around $8 per month, you don't really need a lot of resources when it comes to wordpress hosting, just upgrade traffic / diskspace as go you as you begin to grow.

Didn't you ask a similar question a year ago ;)

If you want better speed and service you might want to check out managed WordPress hosting. Happy to set you up on a free trial at wpcharged.nz if you're after better performance and support than shared hosting plans can offer.

Otherwise make sure your host has SSD hard drives and offers PHP7 as it performs significantly better than older PHP versions. You could also try an Australian host if targeting the AU market. VentraIP and Netvirtue seem to be the good-to at the moment for shared hosting over there.

Cloudflare may not work as expected in Australia. If accessing a website behind Cloudflare from one of the main ISP's it will likely be routed to either the Hong Kong or Singapore location over the AU pop locations negating the performance advantages of using CF. This only affects the free Cloudflare plan.

More info here if interested:

"In Short CloudFlare are not advertising the free service IP ranges domestically to domestic Australian transit providers, only on domestic peering exchanges.

The issue is Optus and Telstra AAPT etc don't peer on these public peering exchanges and i doubt this will ever change."

I am very happy with Cloudways/Vultr with their Sydney server. Its relatively cheap, and really fast.
