Hi There!

Is there some sort of guidelines we or rule of thumb for what we should expect to pay for cabling on jobs? I mean I do understand that cabling jobs could very almost like a how long is a piece of string type arrangement, because of length of cabling run, type of cable, ease of installation, but is there any way to give some form of price range?

The reason I ask is that a client was quoted $2250+GST for 6 dual outlets (Labour). The length of the run I'd estimate is around 25m. Access is through a suspended ceiling. Would need terminating at the patch panel. There is another $650 in parts.

Seems a fair bit.

It might be reasonable. Might not be.

For a 1-2 day job, probably ok. For goodness sake, our gardener wanted nearly $1000 for a day and a half tidy up work. We had 2 quotes both at similar prices.

If it only takes 4 or so hours, I think it is overpriced.

Parts are tricky, like electricians is the $650 the wholesale cost or retail cost (which is double to the customer).

$2250 is labour only. Not sure what cablers charge per hour, but it's hard to believe it would take a day to run and terminate 6 Dual outlets, even in a moderately difficult environment?

$280 per hour if its for 1 day sounds a trifle excessive to me, but the price of most things seem excessive to me.
