Hello,

I'm new to this community. I'm making my first post here so I apologize if it's not correct or wrong way to do it. I need some suggestions/solutions to this problem.

I just got SGSII and I want to know how to disable the shutter sound when taking photos? There's no option at all to mute it even if my phone is in vibrate/mute mode. I don't think my phone is rooted but how do I find out if it is or not? I'd like to stay unrooted as I have no knowledge of rooting them.

I've tried every setting in the phone to disable it. There's literally no option to do this, I have no idea why but I tried to google this problem and it seem that they have hidden this option so that perverts can't take photos secretly. Most solutions out there are not stable according to the comments I read and most of them are with rooted SGSII. I want to find an solution without rooting my phone or recommend me an app that is almost as same as stock camera with the option to mute this is all I'm asking. I'm posting this here as most of them are talking about the carrier that isn't in New Zealand such as AT&T, Sprint etc.
Help please? Thanks!

With my SGS2, there was no sound when the phone was on silent, it still made the sound on vibrate though.

Your only other option is to root the phone and the delete the sound file used for the shutter sound.

There is nothing to be feared by rooting and it actually allows you to get a lot more out of your phone. it can also be easily undone.

You could this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neaststudios.procapture.free

Its a very popular stock camera replacement.

@bradstewart: Thanks for the reply. I have no problem to root my phone however I'm new to the whole rooting process so I'd rather take the safe way and do the solution without rooting until I feel comfortable rooting my phone later on. I will try the app you suggested and see how it goes. Thanks!

Still looking for the solution if there's any :)

@richms: How do I check my ICS? My phone stated that I have 4.0.3 as Android Version. Is this the ICS version?

THat would already be on ICS then. Its firmware specific so perhaps try just using flashing the latest telecom nz software to it, no need to root it to do that when I did a friends one.

Well you could try other vodafone softwares if keeping the branding is important to you.
