Hey guys this is my first time posting here but I have trolled for years, I was wondering if anybody knows why my galaxy s3 wont pick up another carriers sim card? It was running on telecom for the last owner and it has all the telecom apps installed but when I put in a vodafone sim card it says "No Sim" in the notification area. Before anyone asks yes I have made sure the sim card is put in properly. I was wondering if the previous owner had somehow got this phone "blacklisted" so I rang telecom and the person I was talking to said no it isn't. I was lead to believe that telecoms s3 is not locked onto their network so I can use any sim card from any carrier I wanted but this doesn't seem to be the case?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I paid good money for this phone and starting to feel like I should have just kept using my galaxy ace.

Blacklisting a handset IMEI would not bring up " No SIM " so not related

Have you tried another Vodafone SIM by any chance?

No I haven't tried using another vodafone sim but it does the same with my partners 2 degrees sim. I will try my friends telecom sim tonight when I see him and see if that works. I don't really want to use xt though as I have been with vodafone since I was about 12 years old lol.

Telecom does not SIM lock handsets, Skinny does if it happens with many SIMs different carriers then it really has to be handset related

Hmm, wondering if I flash it with vodafone stock firmware it might pick up the vodafone sim? I'm really at my wits end with this GRRR

Why don't you get a $5 XT SIM and try that? Did you buy it on Trade Me?

How trustworthy is the seller? Any damage to the phone you can see?

Yeah, lurked was the word I was looking for.

I haven't bought a $5 xt sim as they were not $5 last time I purchased one.

No the phone wasn't purchased through Trademe, it was from my little Brothers friend, and I trust him completely as I have known his parents for years.

Phone looks to be in perfect condition other then general wear and tear marks - nothing to say it has been dropped anyway.

Sorry to break it to you, but this doesn't work in real life. Someone else posted here that he bought a Samsung Galaxy from a friend of a friend, who he trusted as he was a Vodafone employee.

It just happens he wasn't a Vodafone employee and the handset was blocked, reported as stolen.

I read that thread and yes, it was 2 degrees. Also even if somehow that was the case and it is stolen why would it not pick up another carriers micro sim? From what I have been reading around all the various forums if it was blocked/blacklisted it should still be able to pick up another sim card? Also telecom have told me it is not blacklisted and hasn't been reported stolen? This is doing my head in!

Only 2 months or so, it works in my partners Nokia Lumia 800 - it came with it. The 2 degrees sim is the same age.

- 2degrees do not block stolen handsets
- Vodafone and Telecom block stolen handsets

If someone tells you a handset is working on 2degrees but "it won't work on other mobile operators" then it's a strong indicator it may be blacklisted.

If it's blacklisted then regardless of SIM card it will not "connect".

I'd say it's time for JohnR to get the IMEI and check the list.

freitasm, I don't think you get it. I don't have the problem of sim card not connecting - the problem is it doesn't even pick up that a sim card is in it!
