Anyone else having an issue with a Samsung Note 4 suddenly turning off (crashing) at between 30 an 15% battery life? Its doing that from 100% charge in just a few hours so I'm guessing its a battery issue but the phones only just over a year old so pretty disappointing.

I've never seen a phone just crash when it says there is charge left so quite surprised, I just watched it do it again and the screen stops mid render like when you hard reset (unplug) a PC.

Might be something the Note 5 or S6 start to see but changing those batteries looks tough!

Check your battery for bulging. If you pull it out, place it on a flat surface, and you can spin it. You have a bulging battery. You could try for a replacement from the place you bought it. Or just grab yourself a replacement from your local cell store.

Nope, its not bulging. I bought a new samsung battery and that works fine so it just a knackered battery but that's pretty crap for a phone that just over a year old.

The think thats odd is how it crashes suddenly, im guessing its a current issue maybe?

Oddly I just had a VERY similar issue with my Note 4. It wouldn't crash, but at some stage between about 25 and 15% it would race down to zero in 5-10 minutes and turn itself off. Battery was physically fine (I have had a bulging S4 battery before)...

I too got a new (legit) Samsung battery and the problem has gone.

the useful lifespan of a phone battery these days seems to be about 12-18months. my wife's iPhone5 goes through a battery every 18months... until she dropped it in the sink.

her phone was suffering from the same symptoms you mentioned, replacing the battery solved everything on both occasions.

Mine will drop like a rock from 30%, it will even keep counting down while it is on the fast charger till it hits 1%, then quickly come back up to 20% or so. If I pull it off charge after its back up, it will actually seem to last for longer than it would have while doing the crazy fast counting down thing.

No bulge, all batteries do it, old ones and replacements (I have 4 now) - the older ones have a much shorter overall live from 100% but they all seem about the same from the 30% drops like a rock point.

Battery is failing. Quite common.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

It's because the battery level reading is based on battery voltage, and when cell capacity drops, the battery simply cannot supply the current requirements of the phone - even though the voltage looks like it's at 30% capacity it is *actually* getting close to zero.

I was constantly getting those issues, daily.. I took mine back to spark who sent it away..

After the 4th time sending it away within a few months I got really pissed off.. So I said I want my money back or I'll take this through small claims which they didn't like that but to be fair.. f*ck them..

After lots of temp phones and going back and forward.. telegistics said (and maybe that was a slip of the tounge) that it's a common fault with the note 4's and they're starting to see it more and more..

So spark gave me a full refund and I bought an S7 Edge..

Happy with the result as I have a new phone and got rid of the painful experience with the note 4.. which was an excellent phone..

Ive changed batteries several times, and it fixes the total runtime, but not the hopeless battery meter. I just regard 30 as dead and dont let it go below 50 if I can help it.

Agreed it is likely a current issue, weird that the phone isnt designed to deal with that. Also pretty poor that after 15 months its had it. I was wondering if it was perhaps the stress of the fast charger so will avoid using that overnight with the replacement battery, Ill just use that for a short charge.

I've logged a call with their helpdesk and they called back so may be doing something. Bit of a pain in the a though, bodes very bad for anyone with the new sealed units as they will not be $30 for a new battery...

considering the things they changed i can only assume they had no idea what the problem was. it could be software related, not getting the correct information needed from the battery? marshmallow is out now for the note4 right? interesting to see if that fixes yours problems.
