i just bought the new samsung wireless fast charger stand. for some reason it is significantly slower than charging it through the standard fast charger via cable. and yes iam using the fast charger and cable to power the wireless unit. the light on the front is dark blue while the phone  (S7) is on it, which indicates fast charging is on. is this normal? i would have thought the new unit is at least as fast as the cable version. any ideas?

thanks

Wireless fast charging needs to be turned on. Check under device > battery advanced settings.

I'm thinking of getting one. How is it?

It's still faster to use the cable directly as there are some losses (less efficient energy transfer) through inductive charging. I use a USB amp meter which shows the voltage jumps to 9v in both instances, the amps similar 1.3 or so from memory, but I guess the cooling fan running absorbs a bit of energy, which accounts for the extended charging time.

Slightly slower for charging, but so much more convenient. I have a charger at work, so my phone is always fully charged there and another wireless charger at home. Convenience and a phone that is normally fully charged for most of the day and night is the key driver for me and the missus.

it is very convenient if you are coming and going from your desk. also the little stand is great and lets you work on it while its charging in front of you. my charge port used to get a hammering and now its barely needed. very pricey though if you buy nz retail (charger and cable are not included!)

I got mine from Amazon, but exchange rate has tanked since then. Came with American fast charger from memory.

I hardly notice the difference..

However I have one on my desk (older one that came with S7E) and new one at home..

Whenever I'm charging I'm not focusing on it.. however seems to work really well and hardly every have less the 50% battery..

I'm also assuming that my S8+ is more battery efficient and has a bigger battery than the S7E..

Fast chargers are great, if you need a fast charge - but if you don't need fast charging, why spend the extra $? I have a non-fast charging wireless pad at work. I love it, I just drop my phone on and off it as required. As my work day is around 8 hours, no need for fast charging, my phone always hits the 100% throughout the day.

I've worked this out. It was probably obvious but just in case....

The wireless charger (the convertible Samsung one) will Fast Charge...BUT, only if you use a fast charger power supply to run it. If you connect the USB to, say, your computer then it will charge at the normal 'slow' rate which is at least 1 hour slower. The charger that comes with the phone works just fine.

This is less convenient for me than I had hoped, as it's not that easy for me to plug the thing into the mains charger and have it next to my Mac, where I wanted it to be a stand. Perhaps I need to find a 1.5m USB C cable...!
