Hello:

All I want to do is simply display a URL image. Does anyone have a template I
could use that already displays an image that I can possibly use?
I've been looking all over the internet and the only answers I've
found are extremely complex that include other code.

I'm very good at learning something once I can get it to work from my
end then proceed to analyzing the code.

I am VERY new at Android programming and xml.

Thanks!

PS -- Anyone know any good newbie guides that have full samples of code or downloadable projects for common tasks?

Righto...first off...a disclaimer: I am a newbie in Android too. However, the xml is somewhat reminiscent of XAML/WPF, which I have to deal with at work. I am also assuming you want to display an image hyperlink? If that's now what you want to do then this is all redundant :o)

Stick an ImageView on your View, then write a event handler for it. The event handler creates an Intent with the URL in the appropriate data and launches the system default browser. I don't have a code snippet for you but I imagine it should be a straightforward thing?

Have joined the Google android developers group / forum?

It's very active judging by the digests I get every day. Looks like a great place to ask questions.

Being Google, It's searchable

Thanks about the groups -- I've joined .. and no reply yet :(

As for what I'm trying to do, I want to display an image from the internet on the program (not a link to it) without opening a browser.

Sorry, I interpreted your question wrongly...

Have you had a look through the SDK reference? It is part of the SDK download. I just had a look at the ImageView widget, and it has a public method called setImageURI or some such. I think it takes a Uri, which I assume can be pointed to an http:// one? Not sure...worth a try as a starting point though...
