Hi theer
I'm looking at the LG GW620f, but notice that it's running Cupcake - which is getting old. I'm remembering when I got stuck with WM5 on a Titan a few years ago and wondering if Telecom allow their phones to be upgraded to newer versions of Android ?

You can always root it and install whatever it's available for it.

According to almost everything I've read, the phone will not receive an Android update. well... Everything but this

That is specific to T-Mobile UK though, I've read some reports from LG that it won't get it full stop but hey, who knows?

Thanks, both of you. Not sure I am confident enough to root a phone. Hoped it would be easier. Back to the drawing board I suppose.

I've been looking at the Samsung i5700. Also runs Cupcake - but there's supposedly a Samsung update for it to 2.1 (Eclair).....only problem is it's not "officially" released here, so you have to get it from a parallel importer and not Telecom or Vodafone.

If your budget is about $700 then there are other Android phones you could use with Telecom XT.

Upgrades are an issue for many of these early Android phones from a variety of vendors. The best way to future-proof your Android phone is buy one from a vendor with a firm commitment to updating their phones: Motorola (proven), Sony Ericsson (so far), HTC (proven - and lots of choice, too), Google Nexus One (proven). Acer (proven - several updates have been released)

There are some question marks over other vendors - LG and Samsung have proven themselves to be tardy at best, though lately Samsung has responded to the slagging it's received from all quarters by promising an update for the Behold II .......They risk their entire Android investment if they are seen as not keeping the product up to date.

Pretty much anyone else is just dropping phones/boxes....unless I'm being unfair to someone.

This is all developing radpily and more phone vendors will be entering the Android phone market in the coming weeks and months (DELL, in particular).
