Hi all,

Since i got 2.2 I have been having troubles with my GPS, i can only get the assisted gps, not actual GPS

I brought the desire from Clove (great service) and worked fine before i got 2.2, anyone else having this troubles?

Mine seems to work fine, what actual trouble are you having? Does the GPS show up on the upper taskbar when its being used?

Yea it comes up the top bar but it can't get a lock on my location ever
I tried reloading 2.2 but not luck

My Clove supplied Desire on 2.2 doesn't seem to have this issue either. Do you have a tick in the "Use wireless networks" box in your location settings, and wireless data turned on? Your phone might need an update on satelite locations. I understand the aGPS feature does this (as well as other things). It may take a while to update this info if the existing data in your phone is 'old'.

Try adding the "Power Control" widget to your Home Screen + make sure the GPS Icon is activated.

Next, you can try going into Settings --> Location ans Security and make sure that "Use wireless networks" and "Use GPS satellites" is selected.

It's not because the upgrade to Froyo means the GPS is cold starting does it?. According to this

it can take 12 minutes for a GPS unit 'find itself', so a smartphone might be similar or even longer. I know from my own experience that patience is not virtue many technophiles possess.

I also wonder in the case of UK sourced phones (and firmware) whether during a cold start the phone assumes it's in Greenwich, U.K. and then tries to refine its position on the globe from there. So looking for the completely wrong set of data initially. What would be kind of handy is to be able to tell the GPS where in the world it is (LAT,LONG). I assume that is what the AGPS does but once again it will need to determine where in the world the cellphone tower being used is. So if it initially thinks it's in the UK that may take time.

I'm with Steve. Since 2.2, GPS has ceased to be reliable. It works occasionally when it wants to and the rest of the time I get current location temporarily unavailable messages. Inside, outside. WiFi on. Worked consistently before the upgrade and stopped the same night.

Big LOL, I just tried GPS again before sending this and lo and behold it worked. First time for about two weeks. Androids are so much more interesting than iPhones.
