Please help a simple minded person...
Being an old man I`m not up to speed with all this modern stuff but can someboby please tell me in simple terms how to install Android 2.2/FroYo into my Galaxy S. and how and when and where will it be available?? Will it include thai language as an option?? (I`ve been hoping for that for so long....)

Also can anybody please teach me how to transfer photos taken or recieved to my memory card...

I hope you aren't offended, but some knowledge of the technical side is required to do what you ask. I would not even attempt to provide instructions for a raw newbie. I'd be making a rod for my own back and the chances of success would be less than optimal.

If you really want it done, then get someone else to do it for you....either for free or for beer or cash...and maybe show you as they go. But unless you understand the concepts invovled it will all look like "blah blah blah".

I spent 5 months reading and bringing myself up to speed on my first android phone and how it hangs together and what the different software elements are as well as the tools used to get the job done ansd what each does - why. It took as long as it took.

Each of us has to do their own homework to a certain extent.

There may be fast routes and slow routes.....but shortcuts shelter dragons.

Get some practical, hands-on help and treat it as a learning opportunity.

Froyo is not yet available for the Galaxy S. It is scheduled to have a general release in the UK in September, but this does not necessarily mean we can upgrade it using Kies here. You can upgrade to the newest official 2.1 Firmware using Samsung's Kies application right now though.

Thanks for the replies and no.... I`m not offended. I know that it must take some knowledge and that will be a bit hard for me... I have spoken to a couple phone techs here in Perth WA however being a new phone they are unsure as well.

Also asked about the thai language on a thai site and got directed to a step by step guide on how to install the thai firmware however it was all writtern in thai so I couldn`t understand it all...

Have sent an email to samsung australia in the hope they can help me further.

My phone is already running on Andriod 2.1 so I`m hoping 2.2 does what I want it to do...

Why do you care? Apart from Flash there's aren't many compelling reasons to upgrade for the non-technical.

2.2 is supposed to fix the lag and gps issues as well as huge performance gains due to the JIT compiler

I think I already replied to you about this on the forums previously.

Thai language came with Froyo 2.2 update on the nexus one / htc desire, so I assume it will be added to Samsung Galaxy S when it gets froyo as well. The only froyo for samsung galaxy s that is currently available is a beta version. If you don't know what beta means, it sorta means a hacked pre-release non official version that may have bugs (problems & errors) in it. It's like a pre-release version they test out to find more problems etc that they need to fix before the official version.

You should wait untill samsung makes froyo officially available, when it does you will be able to easily update to froyo via the samsung kies software. This will be about ~1 month wait, and is your best option. In case you don't know kies is the software that came on the cdrom with your phone. You install kies on your PC then plug your phone into your PC using the usb cable. I suggest you download the latest version of kies from samsung (google samsung kies) rather than install then slightly older version that came on the cdrom.

I don't think you would want to install the froyo beta for your phone as it may have bugs and crash and you might have to revert back to your old ROMs, also it may make updating to the official kies more difficult.

If you really want thai language now, i suggest you follow the guide i posted previously for you. It explains how to root your phone and where to add the thai language fonts, it is a quite complicated, but is less complicated and dangerous than flashing your phones firmware or attempting to install a beta froyo rom.

PS. with regard to transfering files/photos, have you read the manual that came with the phone? Have you installed kies on to your PC? If you need help with transfering files/photos, then I think installing thai language/flashing firmware/installing froyo beta version is a bit beyond your abilities! =) I'm not even keen on doing it myself as it's only a 1 month wait to get it from samsung officially.

PPS. Maybe your best option for thai fonts if you don't want to wait is goto one of those small asian booths in the mall that does phone unlocking/hacking/repairs etc... then ask them if they are experienced with rooting android phones and if they know how to use odin and busybox for android. If they don't know what Odin is then they probably arn't experienced enough to do it. Be aware that these kinda of modifications (flashing firmware, installing roms, getting root access) will invalidate your warranty.

I do thank everybody thats taken the time to explain in simple terms to me the questions I have asked. If the wait is only about a month then I don`t mind waiting...

The main reason for wanting the thai writing is that I have friends with children in Thailand and I think it would be much eaiser for the kids to send me an sms in thai and I can use a great transaltion app I have come across called TRANSLATE.
I would then be able to type a reply in english, then use my app to translate it to thai and then send it too them... Making it much easier for everybody...

from memory samsung stated they would release 2.2 end of sept, so hopefully they only 1 month, although sometimes things get delayed. I would imagine that when released it will be available via the kies software.
