Im trying to start the android emulator with eclipse and it goes the through the text android_ for a minute and then it goes into the fancy android load screen, and just stays there, forever.  I have had it loading for 2 hours and it still is on the same load screen.  Eclipse just stays on:
Waiting for HOME ('android.process.acore') to be launched...

Meanwhile, the silver android load screen keeps flashing.

How do I fix this?  All I'm trying to do is run HelloAndroid.

Looks like you're in a boot-loop.

When you defined the emulator, did you add any hardware to it?

Also, what version of Android did you attempt to run? Does it matter?

I often use Android v1.6 to create androidID numbers for fixing access to the Android Market on tablets that don't have an IMSI. All I ever add to the default is SDcard support - 20MB, say...)

You could have some fun and open a command prompt in android-SDK\tools (or whatever you called it) and "adb shell" into the emulator while it's looping and then run a "logcat". What's going on in the emulator will scroll past in the terminal / command window...and you'll see some crash or other repeating itself over and over...and maybe it will give you a hint as to what else you may need to define in the emulator to stop it crashing next time.
