I would also appreciate an answer to this question. I simply cannot go on with 256Mb of internal memory for such an expensive phone for just my apps. Just ridiculous.

Not sure on (or even if) an official Telecom NZ release but I am running the Vivo 2.2 ROM Leak and it is going very well.

Also rooted and overclocked to 1ghz :)

Rooting my phone seems like a good alternative at the moment. Anyone know if this will void my warranty with Telecom?

Cheers for the link

Just tried to update to 2.2  upgrade started until the Milestone was listed as no update currently available :( argh so frustrating.

Does Telecom block updates until it wants to decide when there loyal customers can update??

Ok at further investigation it seems this is only for the UK milestones. Worked fine on my partners as hers was brought from a parallel importer. I Guess its one step closer though.

Motorola is releasing the update in stages, and they originally said APAC would be after Europe anyway.

The closet country that Motorola listed for the 2.2 update was Australia but nothing for them yet and I called Telecom and was told they have no idea either, the communication between Motorola and Telecom must be shocking.

Looks like ill have to root it myself for 2.2 at this rate

After waiting for another reply from the official Motorola support forum this is the reply i finally received

In a small number of cases the decision is made to not provide software upgrades on certain  devices. This can be a result of a number of factors, including resources available or operator requirements.  We can confirm that the decision was made in Israel/New Zealand to not provide the Froyo upgrade for  Milestone A853 in this market.

WOW I'm stunned Telecoms flagship android phone is now stuck on 2.1 officially and I'm rather peeved about an answer that is seems to me like they don't care about the little guys around the world :(

I have to wonder if Motorola and Telecom had a dispute in the past.

Seriously dude! I am done waiting for any kind of updates from telecom!

Use the XDA forums, Im on a Gingerbread 2.3 rom for my Milestone and it works flawlessly. You will get more support for the phone from those forums than Telecom itself. Im pleased I rooted and got 2.3

I'm just as surprised that they are even still selling this thing, its ancient (surely the Galaxy S has been their flagship phone for the past few months) . USA are onto the droid 3 now, thats 2 models ahead of the milestone Telecom sell.

In saying that it is still a pretty decent phone and i can highly recomend taking matters into your own hands and rooting it and installing a custom rom on it to keep it up to date. There's plenty of choice.

I am still using a HTC Magic but running Cyanogen Mod 6.1 (2.2 - froyo) on it.
