Glad to see the start of some new Android news apps from the major players!

So far so good:)

No offence but why?  Fix the Web app TBH, that way you support everybody.  NZ Herald mobile site is pretty good.

I had a look at the app and I am pretty sure you can do everything it does but in a web app.  Just like touch facebook.

Why does it needs these permissions:

READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY

FINE (GPS) LOCATION

MODIFY/DELETE USB STORAGE CONTENTS MODIFY/DELETE SD CARD CONTENTS

For weather, Coarse location / IP Geolocation should be enough.

I don't know why so many Android apps are tracking users.

Takes ages to load.
No move to SD. (3.03 mb after first use)
Doesn't have an "exit" or "close" option so stays running... (Not on my phone when it's reading my gps and identity, thanks!)

I'd like an option to turn off the photos to save me from blowing my cap when not on wifi.

Tested on my home wifi (with 15mbit cable) and I'd hate to see how long it would take to load when I'm out.

I'll stick with the NZ Newspapers app.

Uninstalled.

A shame really as I was waiting for a decent "proper" Stuff app. :(

edit: I gave it one more shot and it took 25secs to open main page. I then closed it (and proper closed via application menu)  and my cache was then over a 1.1mb so there's no way I'd be using this on my small data plan (200mb a month)

QFT
I can totally see that people seem to be liking the 'app' world that we live in but some things just don't need them. Namely news websites.

I am generally in my browser app already when I think to go see the news for the day. These days I tend to go to the full webpages as TVNZ and Stuff have such poor implementation of the mobile sites i'd rather zoom in and be able to see all the news at once rather than 5 or 10 top stories only.

I'm stoked that there are more NZ apps out there but I think the effort would be better targeted at nicer mobile http sites...

If you gave me the same gui of your app on the mobile site i'd be well stoked.

Works well, although I usually just use the web since I can play Flash Video etc without a hassle

Thanks for the interesting feedback. I quite like to use mobile sites as well, but there's just something about a native app.

Installed the new app, but think I'll stick with the version I created with appsgeyser.com a couple of weeks ago. It's basically i.stuff.co.nz wrapped as an apk (and yes, this does have an exit button).

Yes something about a native app that lets you collect more data about the user than a web site. Very clever.

Could an Android widget be made out of this? Something similar to the bundled news widget with an Engaget feed and others.
