hey guys, absolute noob/useless girl here :)
I've spent a good 6 hours of this morning reading up on how to update the firmware on my phone from froyo to gingerbread, I've tried updating to 2.3.3 using the beta firmware through Odin but it seems I cant set my phone to download mode (apparently some phones have this feature turned off) and I would have to buy a jib to get my phone to do so.
I have read that Kies has a gingerbread updater for the Galaxy S phone, I was wondering if Kies will make this available for Galaxy Ace users?
and if not, how would I go about updating to 2.3.3? or would it even be worth my time?

thank you to anyone who replies, I really appreciate your time.

If volume down, home and power doesn't work to get it into download mode, try using adb.

Download the android sdk (save it to the root of your C:\ drive so it's easier to navigate to)
Enable usb debugging on the device (applications/development/usb debugging)
Plug in the phone
Open a command prompt and type "cd C:\" (no quotes)
Then type "android-sdk\tools\adb reboot download" (again without quotes. "android-sdk" is the name of The folder the sdk is in, if you have named it something else use this instead")

See if this works to reboot into download mode. If it does, you will be able to flash a 2.3.3 rom with odin.

Roms available from here

Keep in mind this will void your warranty. Also take a backup of any data you need. Might be a good idea to get a copy of your stock rom to revert back to in case something goes wrong.

2.3.3 is the latest firmware, the difference in the letters in the firmware build relates to different countries/region variants.
