Hi. I am new to this so please bear with me. About 8 months ago I brought a Galaxy s2 in CHCH . It was configured for Vodafone but I wanted to use it on the XT network. I have read that the phone could be used on a number of networks without problems so I brought it. I used the phone for about 6 months on XT and all was fine. I noticed there was a firmware update and down loaded it. From just after Xmas I have been having major problems with the XT network . I was getting repeated missed calls, no reception, unable to receive calls and garbled messages. I ma also getting the message the phone can only be used for emergency calls...I subsequently did a system reset to get the phone back to a factory state but it still hasn't fixed the problem. I rang Samsung and they say Telecom are mucking around with their towers down here and there is nothing wrong with the phone. I tried my wife's Vodafone Sim in the phone and had the same problem. I when into a local Telecom store and they gave me a new Sim card but again it didn't make the phone work. Samsung are now saying that because the phone is a meant to be used on the Vodafone network its not their problem. Has anyone else had these problems and how did you get around these issues??
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It is a bit more complicated than plugging in my phone as I have taken it back to the place I purchased it from. Again they have had the same line from Samsung, that being it is likley to be a network issue and not the phone.
I have previously recorded the following xxke7 and xwkg3 it those numbers mean anything to you.
Thanks. Have you any suggestions to Samsung's argument that the phone was meant to be used on the Vodafone network and therefore it will have problems when being used on the XT network . This doesn't ring true to me due to the fact I have been using it without problems for at least 6 months. As far as I am aware the phone is a quad band phone and can be used on any of the networks in NZ. Is that right or not
Okay I have just been told today that the phone has been sent to Auckland to be looked at but may take up to 15 working days to get back to me....
Do you thing that due to the firmware update it may have caused problems with the handset receiving the XT signal??. When I spoke to Samsung they told me there is no way to reverse an update as if this was possible I could have seen if the update was the problem.
Another question you may be able to help me with is the firmware update only for vodafone or is it a general update. I need to know this due to the fact the ICS firmware is meant to be rolled out sometime this quarter and I don't want to have this problem again??
- GT-I9100LKAXEU = a Euro (generic) phone (often parallel imported) - GT-I9100LKAVNZ = a VodaNZ phone etc
Possible that the OTA update gave you some gimped carrier specific version of the firmware that was the wrong one for your model which mucked up the baseband for 850 3G.
Hopefully someone else who has something helpful to add see this thread.
In future you may want to use the Samsung Kies software to update the device over the internet rather than do OTA update on XT if it's a Vodafone model.
Thanks I will have a read and see what comes up there. I did use the Samsung Kies software to do the update so I am not sure what else I could have done. The phone is VNZKG1 so it wasn't a parallel import as far as I know. I will be interested if it has happen to others as well. Thanks again for your help.
