Hi All

I'm moving on from my iPhone 3GS and am wanting to try & get an android that will get an official ICS update for around $500ish. After looking around in the geekzone forums & other sites I think the Nexus S or Optimus 2X are my best options as I don't want to buy a 2nd hand phone but I'm happy to go with an import. I'm hoping someone who has experience with android & these handsets might be able to give some advice as to which is the better handset or if there is another option I've missed.

Also a little advice on reliable online stores to try and get a sweet deal would be much appreciated. Thanks.

AFAIK the 2x is 2.2 froyo with an upgrade to 2.3 gingerbread so 4.0 ICS may be a way away. The nexus s already has ICS in some markets so that would be the one to go for if ICS is a priority.

Thanks Paul. I guess that's what I'm trying to weigh up. Is stock ICS more of an asset than an early dual core processor.

Try these:

Seems dual core, faster network and better camera for the 2x win it out, so the only thing the nexus s has going is better battery due to single core and ICS now verses sometime before Christmas this year for the LG.

It might also pay to check what is cripped by the device manufacturer before you buy the phone, depending on your requirements.

LG cripple many Androd features from their phones, ie the Optimus Black doesn't have SIP or multiple exchange accounts with Gingerbread. I don't know whether the 2X has these same limitations if these features are important to you.

I've got an O2X, before the gingerbread 2.3 update it had an intermittent issue of not waking up from hold when pushing the power button (taking the battery out remedied it), now that it's on gingerbread it hasn't happened once.

Supposedly ICS is due for q2 of 2012 but knowing how long it took LG to put 2.3 onto it (was due in Sept, arrived in November or thereabouts. I would expect it to be q3 by the time it is rolled out.
I have no experiences with the Nexus but the O2X is a great phone, a significant jump from my HTC Magic which I had previously.

The LG Optimus 3D now has an official Gingerbread update available and will be getting ICS toward the end of the year.

Pricespy lists several places that have it for sale between $488 and $520.

I have one...I love the thing....especially now it has the Android v2.3.5 update on it.

Nexus S also has considerably better sound quality, which may or may not matter that much to the OP (but better they know now in case it is relevant).

Fortunately 8mp camera is more important than the sound quality in my case but may be handy for others to know.
