Hmm, strange.

I downloaded Neverware to a USB key.

I managed to get it up and running on the laptop. I then choose Install OS.

It started installing, but after a while it was on the desktop like everything was normal. But the Install OS still appeared, when I clicked on the information button.

When I then removed it and restarted the laptop, it said Boot Device Not Found.

So it looks like although it says it will install the OS, it doesn't actually do it. It only runs from the USB.

Neverware help says boot mode in bios must be set to UEFI. The guide also says disable secure boot and/or fast boot.

An old HP Intel Celeron N2830 2.16GHz with 4GB RAM. Doesn’t show up on the compatible list. However, they do state that a lot of other models still would work.

Thanks, will give it a go (after I’ve tried Ubuntu).

When it was running from the USB, it was very slow. Took ages for it to load YouTube (as an example).
Is this what I can expect from it, or will it be faster, when it’s running from the actual HDD?

It's much faster when fully installed.

These steps might be useful as well (I had to use them on one laptop) https://cloudreadykb.neverware.com/s/article/Manual-Installation-Via-the-Cmd-Line

Hmm, sometimes computers can be the most frustrating thing.
I’m trying to install ChromeOS again, but it won’t load from USB now.
Just gives me a black screen, which changes to a slightly less black screen and then back to a black screen.

Hmm, I’ve set it to UEFI Boot Order and also disabled secure boot?
It still comes up with Install OS, even after I’ve chosen it and allowed it to install.
When I then restart and remove USB, it still comes up with an error.

Maybe some issue with the Neverware partition not marked active or some remaining OEM partitions confusing things.

A gparted boot cd/USB or similar can give you a view at that level:

https://gparted.org/liveusb.php

If experiments fail it can be used to delete absolutely everything and start from there.
