Got the Q3200 in Red about 18 months ago. One issue is the base warped within 12 months, but webber sent out a replacement.

I use their frying pan with removable handle a lot on it for cooking eggs etc when we're having breakfast.

With the convection trays I've cooked chicken, legs of lamb, and pork joints in addition to the usual selection of Steaks etc.

Overall excellent, but I sometimes wish I'd gone for the more traditional looking Spirit BBQs from Weber

Another pellet smoker user here.

I have a GMG Daniel Boone and absolutely love it.  Low & slow produces the most tender and delicious food.

The only issue I have with it is the accuracy of the built in temp control, but I get around the problem with a GrillEye Pro

I treated myself a couple of years a go to a Kamado Joe Classic II and the food really does taste better cooked over charcoal. There's a new Classic III now as well, but I'll struggling to see enough improvements to justify the nearly 50% price jump.

There's definitely more time and effort involved than with gas though, but I don't regret ditching my gas BBQ for it.

EDIT: I know people with Weber Qs and I haven't heard a bad thing about them, so if you're after gas I don't think you'll regret it. You're smart looking at the 3200 instead of the 3100, I don't know if the thermometer is any good - but the larger dome lid on the 3200 makes it worth paying a little more.

EDIT 2: If you will be primarily just cooking for two, the Q2200 might be all you need? That's what my father has and he has found it big enough for them, although by the time he added the proper stand/trolley I'm not sure if it came out much cheaper than the Q3200 would have.

EDIT 3: Here you go, if you thought the Q2200 would be big enough you could get that plus the patio cart for $868 and use the left over for some accessories.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I went ahead and bought the Q3200 in Red and the family q starter pack and 1/2 plate grill. Although a lot of the time it is me and the wife we do have the kids around quite a bit in the weekends so think this is the right choice.

Turfery were awesome did it all over the phone and it has already been dispatched. Could have got it from Stil here in chch but meh free delivery from Turfery and all that lol.

I bought a black Weber Q2200 from Turfrey in December 2016.

After 12 months, the paint started flaking off the lid. Weber replaced it under warranty, but now the replacement lid has now started doing the same. Given it has a 5 year warranty, I will look to replace lid again next year under warranty.

Prior to my black model, I had a traditional beige-colour 2200 which was fine, so I think I will request a beige lid for the next replacement.

Anyone else have similar issues with the black model?

Apart from lid issue, have been very happy with the Weber - great to cook on and easy to keep clean.

Useful hint - the weber foil drip trays for the Q series are made of very thin tin foil and are prone to develop holes from the drippings and end up making a mess of the aluminium tray they sit it. I double fold tin foil and line the inside of the tray and that seems to have fixed the issue.

I have found Weber exceptional for warranty. They have sent me parts for my One Touch Gold free of charge twice now despite it being 10+ years old and genuine but not purchased through an authorized service center.

Will be interested to see what happens now it's not family owned, if they will stick by their "buy one bbq for life" type policy?

To be honest a good quality thermopen type instant read thermometer should be part of every kitchen and (especially) BBQ area. They do serve slightly different purposes, but I just can't highly enough recommend investing in one. I used to be a bit sceptical and whilst I've never had an incident, it takes all the guesswork out of things.

We keep a couple of temp charts around the place in both C and F so at a glance we can determine a) what F in C and Vica Versa is, and what temp food should be.

Agreed. The Thermapen is expensive, but is hands down better and WAY faster than the cheap ones. Only downside is you need to unscrew the battery compartment to switch between F and C - but generally you'll just stick with one or the other.

I don't have a Thermopen as such, I can't recall what exactly it is, but it was highly rated on Amazon and half the price and has a button for switching on and off, and switching between C and F and is very quick.

I got the Thermapen as a birthday present, and I was surprised by how convenient the accelerometer made it. It has zero buttons. It just automatically turns on when you pick it up then turns off when you put it down (or close it). The ambient light sensor for the display is handy as well.

For BBQing I work in F all the time anyway.

Yeah I am getting that way too, though to be honest I really only know what 225F and 275F are in C as those are the only ones I use for low and slow. Anything else, I usually look up.

@openmedia This has happened to mine too. It's still more than usable, so I haven't worried too much about it. Was this much of a hassle for you?

Weber Q seems fairly popular, I had one but just didn't like oval shape of it

Anyone got experience with the Weber Genesis II? Looks more like your traditional BBQ but still uses the closed lid technique to cook

The grill trays would no longer stay in place and kept dropping onto the burners - so yes a major issue

Sorry, I should've been clearer. Was the replacement process easy enough?

My new Anova sous-vide just arrived.  We've already got one but the wi-fi is a little unreliable, and also find that when doing big cooks like Christmas Day it would have been handy to have another one.  So this is the new version and will let us do twice as much at the same time.

I can highly recommend it.... it makes cooking the meat so simple and it tastes amazing.  Just sous-vide at the right temp for the right length of time, then finish on the bbq.  Foolproof every time.  It's app enabled so you can check/start/stop/modify your cook remotely.  All you need is a pot of water and the Anova....and your choice of meat :)
