We changed from Elgas after receiving probably the worst service I have ever experienced. We had used them for several years and they were great, then suddenly my wife noticed we had been charged for gas we never received. She emailed them and they said it was an error and would be removed. A few weeks later we received a more sternly worded letter saying to pay, she called them and the person said they would fix it. We shortly afterward received a notice that the bill was overdue. My wife ended up calling and emailing multiple times, sometimes they promised to call back but never did. It dragged on for weeks and weeks with them not following up on anything they said. In the end they got rid of the incorrect charge but we were so put off by them we changed to Genesis, who have been great so far.

Totally appropriate. Whatever the cause, the end result is a lot of devastation. Do not put yourself & others in a position that can so easily go horribly wrong.

So how will everyone transport their 9kg BBQ bottles? And why should trucks bear the risk of transporting 45kg bottles?

The gas bottle trucks being specifically set up to carry the bottles with a driver trained in the handling of them. Private vehicles, not so much.

So, I am pretty annoyed that I have not had one single bit of contact from Genesis about my gas delivery debacle. This after emailing the CEO.

Edit: Second Email seemed to have done the trick. CSR Called. Their version of events differs significantly from what we were told, but they apologised and put a $100 credit on the account.

I'd rather have had less stress and my gas delivered on time, but, well, it's something and hopefully, going forward, we won't have the issues again.

I did suggest perhaps she could sign me up to the automatic notification system when the bottles went empty, for a period free of charge, but she wasn't keen ;)

9KG LPG bottle probably falls under the limit where if moving a small amount for domestic purposes you don't need a D endorsement or display the tag on the vehicle. The 45KG bottles might need that.

I always sweat when I carry gas bottles around. If it was in the boot and you were rear ended.....

There would be enough explosive power in 9KG's to make the car look like that house.

I have never needed or wanted to carry a 45kg gas bottle in my car, but I do the 9kg ones all the time without hesitation. How else are you supposed to get them where they need to go? We use them for cooking and heating at our rural farmhouse. Other people use them for camping and caravans. Shops keep large numbers of them for swap and go. I don't see this as a high risk endeavour. Not that I let them rattle around loose in my car. I strap them into the back seat safety harness just like any other precious cargo. I don't know what would happen if I ever got hit hard or rolled down a long incline, but I imagine it would pretty much happen anyway without the gas bottle on board. It is not something that worries me.

I wonder why the LPG cars carry LPG bottles in their boot ...

anyway i have no problems carrying gas bottles around.
