Great minds think alike Kobiak!! Or just as frugal...?
I was about to post about it too; I did the same today for a Q2000 and cover at Mitre10 Glenfield :D

Happy days!

You lucky buggers! We don't have that shop where I live, so I had to contend with paying full-price for the 3200, which we put together last night.

Putting it together made me realise how much plastic goes into the Q series (ie, almost all of the cart); I wonder what the manufacturing cost of them is as a percentage of retail price? It does look pretty nice, however - especially with the newer option of the black hood (not sure if this is available from the std retailers?).

Mitre 10 had black Q2000 series at least but wifey overuled and we went with white. Very happy with it so far, despite the plastic feel sturdy and built to last.

I had the opposite issue - my wife insisted it needed to be the black model!

Yeah, agree the stand is surprisingly sturdy, considering what it's made from. I did find the instruction manual for putting it together - like many products nowadays - fairly poor. Relying nearly solely on pictures meant it resulted in lots of repeated screwing and unscrewing of the same screws!

The one thing that seems to be a worry is the sharpness of the plastic 'foot' - I wouldn't want to wack that into bare feet.

We'll christen ours on Boxing Day as it was an Xmas present to ourselves and from my in-laws.

ben007: Hi guys, newbie here and I've been super keen on replacing our old BBQ, so thanks for the great advice already!!

I'd like to get a Weber Q2200, does anyone know if they are ever any discounts on them (e.g. boxing day)?? Otherwise, in current circumstances we may have to consider the smaller (cheaper) Baby Q1200.

Thanks in advance!!

Palmers Westgate (not sure which other Palmers are official stockists with the Q?200 models) with their Loyalty card you get $10 reward for every $100 spent, so if you buy say the Q2200 you get ~$60 credit that can be used instantly on something else (for instance the Breakfast plates), basically they work out the best way of putting it through the POS to get maximum instant rewards use there and then, and put it through as two transactions.

Be interested to hear how you go cooking things like steak and sausages on the weber.

I found it quite irritating having to keep the lid closed while cooking so you can't really see what's going on. Every time you open you lose heat etc. Ended up getting rid of it.

Won't be an issue for me - I'm vegetarian! (Queue vege-knocking posts...)

Cooked for about 40 people on Saturday, didn't find it an issue. Steaks you are obviously only flipping once and the sausages maybe every few minutes or so. Certainly don't think Q series Weber get super hot so maybe slightly longer cooking times than some people might be used to, but think that helps getting that smokey flavour into whatever you are cooking.

My father bought a Q3200, and I cooked a steak on it a couple of weeks ago.
It is a completely different way of BBQing - the WeberQs must have the lid down, and they get very very hot.

We had a couple of quite thick sirloins, and his guide said 2 minutes each side. We felt that would be too long given the heat, but left the first side for two minutes, second side we took off after less than 90 seconds.
The steak was 'nice' but way too overdone for us - it was medium-well, we wanted medium-rare.

The Q's take some practice and getting used to, but they are great units - very efficient too.

Last week, the Wife and I picked up a deal on a second hand DCS grill - now that is a serious machine - had to call up help to pick it up from the seller. Did a rotisserie lamb on it on Sunday - delicious.

Haha, fair enough.

We switched to the vegetarian My Food Bag, mainly as I can't stand fish and their use of salmon was just getting tedious. So while my wife and I aren't full vegetarian there's no dislike against people who are.

I guess I just like seeing the food while I'm cooking so opening and closing the lid was a bit annoying.

You buy a Ziegler and Brown, which has near on twice the burner output of the Weber Qs, and cook with either the hood up or down.

sidefx: Skip the gas nonsense and stick with charcoal, it just tastes better. :)

+1
I suggest bricks and an oven tray.
Plus Ti-tree, with gas - you have an outdoor oven.
