RNZ:
A person who tested positive for Covid-19 has escaped a managed quarantine facility in Ellerslie, police have confirmed.
Police said they have cordoned off an Ōtāhuhu address and are preparing to arrest the person.
How did they escape if they have tested positive. Hope they get the book thrown at them. Terrible that they could treat NZ like this, there is no excuse for it. According to the NZH they escaped at 1am, yet the police weren't called until 10:30am. That is over 12 hours in the community before they were caught..

Victoria follows NSW and gives up on elimination
"Under Australia's national plan, Victoria will remain in limbo until vaccination rates hit 70 to 80 per cent of the eligible population."
It is all very political over there. They could have eliminated it, and IMO this vaccine is not a golden bullet to solving the pandemic, it buys time until hopefully a better or updated vaccine comes a long . I wonder how other states that don't have covid are going to treat these other states.
More evidence of waning vaccine effectiveness against infection (no deaths in this sample, vaccinated or not). At least when the two doses only ~3 weeks apart (which also applies generally for Israel).

Looks like anybody could fly out of Auckland during L4 (and we know people were) because Avsec were in charge of enforcing the rules but weren't actually checking if people were eligible to fly until Tuesday morning!
You couldn't make it up, I mean WTH. Surely someone must have realized something wasn't right.

That seems pretty much in line with other reports on 'Infection'.
But it mentions nothing re serious illness requiring Hospitalization or Death ? Sorry Correction, found it !
""
No deaths were reported in either group; one unvaccinated person was hospitalized for SARS-CoV-2–related symptoms
""
Other reports indicate there is still a high level of protection against these consequences.

Some facilities are dual-role. Sections off for 'quarantine'. (like here in CHC) I believe jetpark is bursting at the seams and more shared facilities were due to be arranged.
So entirely possible

As has happend before with MIFs, if someone wants to really get out - they will, like bed sheet man
I assume the police were called the moment they found he wasn't in his room - they are not monitoring inside the rooms.
Also this site has only just been stood up, there may be some gaps in the CCTV

IMO if they have actually tested positive, there should then be surveillance and extra monitoring around them. I understand Jet Park is far more secure for this reason.

probably as they have had time to iron out the kinks
According to The Herald, he only entered isolation yesterday

TeaLeaf: Interesting stats coming from the NZ flu tracker (not the covid app). Only 50% of people with Flu symptoms are visiting a GP/getting tested. This is mirrioed in an Australsian survey where 68% of Kiwis stating they would not visit GP/Tested if having Flu symptoms. However the main reason is logical, although a bit complacent, the reason selected, it is too inaccessible, or words to that effect. However, they are now looking at using the Saliva test, with news its sensitivty has been increased, which was the main issue with the test. Im not sure how much easier it is to drive through and get a scrape put down the back of your throat via the nostril than driving to a centre to provide a saliva sample, but I presume there must be an easier way of delivering it....... Don't quote me word for word, but I can get the article from the Mrs if anyone is interested in the exact wording.
My issue is that if I have flu like symptoms I am in no position to drive and they dont come to you to get the test.
Update on plot from several days ago (again note these are numbers from the MOH spreadsheet, not the daily briefings. Slightly different as former are per 'Report Date')
Clearly peaked (as would be expected for L4) but too early to conclude that case numbers will continue to fall as sharply as they have so far. In all the other outbreaks in the plot there have been rebounds from initial decreases post-peak. Net trend over the next week or so should be down though providing compliance remains high.
Deliberately left the centre red line in the same location as it was in the original plot.
