If I'm listening to music I run with my phone in one of those elastic waist bands. Don't notice it at all (I've run with other running belts, arm bands etc... and this is the best)

I also wear a cheap Nike+ GPS watch on the one arm. I find it's much more accurate GPS-wise than a phone and I can still run without my phone if I want.

One my other arm I have a Garmin Vivosmart - aside from the pedometer it also allows me to control my music (skip tracks, adjust volume) and I can see my text messages or incoming phone calls. Not quite a smart phone but it does everything I want.

I'm a late comer to running but after a year I have settled on a TomTom watch which uploads my GPS and running stats (and heart rate) to a pile of apps - the main one I use is Strava. And I run with my trusty Cowan for FLAC and MP3 music. Cord just tucks under my shirt and in my shorts and player is in my pocket

The Fitbit Surge. It doesn't have music but it will control music player apps via Bluetooth.

The blog post mentioned before in this thread list it as the best mid-range device - and it's pretty good really.

I run with my lg g watch R and a Bluetooth headset.

I was using an arm band but found it painful. I can recommend this for running with.

I second the surge. It's replaced my polar hrm. If u want to listen to music you do have to take your phone with you, but you can control music tracks from it.
